Just curious, is there a way in which we can see if anybody is clicking on the spiffy links we have?  If this would require you two needing to set something up then please don't worry about it.  I'm sure you have plenty of other more important things to do right now!  However, if I'm just missing something I could do to see stats it would be nice to know simply to satisfy curiosity if my efforts have made a difference at all.  ;)

David, there is no easy way. We just have to log into the dashboard and look through it all.

I can see that you have brought in 3 backers so far.

Maybe once our initial todo list is done we can do a few updates in here for those who are interested.

You can setup a tracking link using google's campaign URL builder. It is free to use but you need to setup a google analytics account. I have not bothered using it this time around but it is an option for tracking clicks. Once it is setup you go to google analytics and then campaigns and you can see the clicks there. It does need to be for a page on the site that your google analytics account is connected to. In the past I have made a page on my site and setup an auto redirect that took visitors from that page to the kickstarter page.

It is a bit clunky but it works.

Here is a link to the campaign URL builder: https://ga-dev-tools.appspot.com/campaign-url-builder/

Thanks Shawn.  I didn't think there would be an easy way, but figured it didn't hurt to ask.  I'm a bit of a tech Luddite so sometimes I don't know things that are obvious to others.    Awesome to know my efforts have brought in a few more backers at least.

Thanks to you too Daron.  I really should see about setting up a google analytics account for my own new blog.

I just see that my post over on the https://www.peakprosperity.com/ website did get the desired attention I was hoping for from Chris and Adam who run that site.  They will likely reach out to either Paul or Shawn about a potential podcast for their audience.  The way I see it they are engaged in the same broad world changing project, just with slightly different areas of focus and emphasis.

Here is the text I am about to send to my local mailing list for eco minded folks:

luxuriant environmentalism

Non-political solutions to global problems.  Live a more luxuriant life, save money and REALLY make a difference in solving global problems. Environmentalism without sacrifice.

Over the last 15 months, my friend Shawn and I wrote a book!   We are flooded with information about global problems, but the solutions are typically political or ineffective.  It seems that the only solutions presented are where somebody profits - and most of those solutions turn out to actually make the problems worse.

So Shawn and I documented the footprint for each person and detailed REAL solutions that each person can do that makes a REAL difference.  We condensed thousands of pages of information into a dense,  illustrated 200 pages.  All without politics or being angry at bad guys.

We have the full table of contents and sample pages on our kickstarter page:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/paulwheaton/better-world-book?ref=bsih5y

A quick rundown on the goodies you get at the $10 backer level:

 - Permaculture Playing Cards eBook (4 gift codes)
 - Care and Feeding of a Rocket Mass Heater (4 gift codes)
 - Rocket Ovens Cooking Microdoc (4 gift codes)
 - Hugelkultur Microdoc (4 gift codes)
 - 21 Podcast Review of Sepp Holzerā€™s Permaculture
 - Cool Public Thanks
 - Permaculture Experience eBook (gift code)
 - Build a Cob Style Rocket Mass Heater DVD (Stream) (4 gift codes)
 - Build the Giant Solar Dehydrator (81 min stream) (4 gift codes)
 - 5 Hour Video Tour of Wheaton Labs (4 gift codes)
 - Access to the Secret Inner Circle Forum
 - 2 eBook Gift Codes for the Book

Four copies of the full rocket mass heater DVD.  One for you and three to hand out.  Plus two copies of the final book.  And heaps and heaps of other stuff.  All for ten bucks.  We are hopeful that we take the world by storm with HUGE interest in this book!

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/paulwheaton/better-world-book?ref=bsih5y

So far, people have ordered over 5000 books!  With a bit of work and a lot of luck, we hope to finish the kickstarter with over 50,000 pre-orders!

In the last three months, we have shared preview transcripts with a handful of people and they are writing their reviews here:

https://permies.com/w/109851

And since our kickstarter was funded in three hours, we have come up with a list of stretch goals to help entice folks into further support!

  - add 100 doodles throughout the book
  - a book from Raven Ranson about edible cleaners
  - paul and shawn will sign some books and a big PARTY!
  - a gift code for the World Domination Gardening 3-DVD set
  - Michael Judd's book "Edible Landscaping with a Permaculture Twist"
  - audio book

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/paulwheaton/better-world-book?ref=bsih5y

If nothing else, please pop out and have a look at our funky video, the table of contents and the kind words of our supporters!

For those of you that have mailing lists and networks of your own, we are offering a kickback program:

https://permies.com/t/kickback

I'm thinking that "luxuriant environmentalism" is the subject.

Wow!  Sweetness, thanks for sharing that Shawn.

For other ways to get the word out, I don't know if Paul has gotten an email or contacted in some way by either Adam Taggart or Chris Martenson from Peak Prosperity.com.  I know after I posted about the book over there and suggested that having Paul as a guest on their "Featured Voices" podcast they were interested and said they'd try to contact him.  I expect you guys are snowed under with emails, but I feel like that would be one highly worthwhile to follow up on.  They might be able to do and post the podcast before the kickstarter is over even.  It would be an audience that should be HIGHLY receptive to what the book is about, but doesn't generally run with a primarily environmental mindset.  While I don't want to oversell this either, my years being a part of that community suggest to me that there are followers of their work, and by extension podcasts, that are major worldwide influencers, not to mention I have a sense there are more high net worth individuals in their audience than the average podcast.

Also, I don't know if you got my purple moosage.  Again, I expect you are snowed under with other things.  My post on John Michael Greer's website ecosophia.net did get interest from him personally, offering to give a publicity blurb for the book.  From what I can see through years of following his work, your book meshes perfectly with what he's been generally advocating for years, and could be seen as a companion volume to his "Green Wizardry" book.  I suspect you'd need to provide him with an advance copy to read, but I suspect a blurb by him would be a boon to sales of the book long term.  If he decided to directly mention the book/kickstarter in one of his weekly blogs, instead of just a small comment by me mixed in among hundreds of other comments at the end of the blog post, the boost to the book campaign could be huge.  Again, I don't want to over sell this, but I seem to remember him once posting something about the reach his weekly posts generally got with his old site, "The Archdruid Report".  As I recall it was something like 100,000+ views on average.  I don't know that everyone has transitioned to the new blog, but it's still a large audience who highly respects what he has to say, and I suspect if he read your book he would want to endorse it whole heartedly.  It's right in line with his philosophies of not telling others to do things you aren't doing yourself, or don't just get angry and bad guys, do something constructive instead.  One of his dozens of published books is called "Wealth of Nature: Economics as if Survival Mattered".  I think the title alone demonstrates the general thought alignments.  :)

While I don't know Mr. Greer or the folks from Peak Prosperity personally I would be happy to help match you all together to make these things happen if you'd like, or need me to.

I just realized I forgot to note in my earlier post that should you get anything more set up with the Peak Prosperity folks or John Micheal Greer they should get their own spiffy links.  While I would love to get credit for any more people they send to the kickstarter, it wouldn't be right.  That should go to them since it is the audience they've built up through years of work that is being tapped. :)

I just went and looked on his site and actually can't find any way to contact him other than leaving a comment on a blog post.  I just did that, telling him you were interested and asking if he could email me some contact info to pass along to you.  Assuming I get a response should I email you at the Paul@richsoil.com address you have listed under your profile?

Also would you like me to pass on to the guys at Peak Prosperity that you would be interested in a podcast, and give them your email or other contact info?  You're of course welcome to email or message me this too.  If you did want to go ahead and contact them they do have a contact page.  Here is a link.  https://www.peakprosperity.com/contact  You would probably want to mention the name of the book and that I had posted a message about it a few days ago in case that's needed to jog their memory.  (Not that they really know who I am!)

No problem at all.  I did get a quick response from John Michael Greer yesterday when I submitted a comment asking what his contact info was and then sent that to Paul.  I should go moosage it to you as well.  :)
