My dad is on the uphill rise. He's coming back home with me sometime this week with hospice. Way better news than what was given to us earlier this week.

Great to hear that he has some more time.

Can we all just make him a promise that we will do our best to have more of us on this side than there are on the other? Always.

John helped thousands of people with their questions about homesteading and permaculture.

I'll be talking with John on the phone later today.   Any notes I should pass on?
All my heart goes out to you John, I will pray for comfort and peace to you. Permies has changed my life for better to serve the planet better so that we could start a better everything. Thank

Thank You, John for all that you have done for us.  We are better people for having known you.  Your support, unswerving dedication, and passion for improving the world has been felt by people all over the world and in every walk of life.  You have woven a thread through the tapestry of our lives that has made us all stronger, each of us in our own way.  There is dignity to be found in knowing that your contribution will be carried forward by those many lives you have touched.  We see your name, read your words, and we know there is a kind heart behind the thoughts you have shared.  Godspeed.

Oh, John, not yet!  We need you for much longer, especially here in the PNW... but I expect you will be 'working' for much longer, just from a 'higher perspective'.  And many, many thanks for so many generous gifts already given ;)   ox

Grace to you and your family during these days, John.  Thank you so much for all your contributions you've made to so many around the world.  You will never know how many lives you touched during the days you were given on this earth (and the days that remain for you to continue to share your life with so many).  But I hope you are surrounded now with those who love you dearly, and whom you touched most significantly.

Every breath is a gift.  Thank you for this important reminder.  Even in these days, you still continue to teach us all something good.

Thank you for the gracious life you've lived and the impact you made in this world.

Dear John, really sorry to read what you are passing. You taught me a lot, and was our first defence on spam fishing, and so much else. My best wishes and hugs from Italy.
May your journey continue in any way close to your beloved ones.

I'm glad to be among the ones who have been treated to a flake of John's life, wisdom, and kindness.
May he be among the ones who helps us from the other side.

To this usually silent stalker of Permies, the Polk name is synonymous with a good discussion.
I take faith that most who dabble in the garden understand that life isnt to be taken seriously and grasped at - its to be loved, appreciated, then composted.
Im deeply relieved to know we have people like John in our soil ecology.

Dear John, I am praying for you now and write to thank you for all the wonderful work you have contributed to the vast 'permies' community. ~ I would like you to know, especially at this hour of 3pm today and now after 3pm, I have prayed for you and your mission and your family. In light of the Holy Passion of Jesus' death at 3pm, and of Jesus' miraculous life giving birth in this Christmas Season, that  you and your dear family are being kept in loving prayer. I pray that the holy light of Our Lord fill your life and family and bring you great consolation.

John, I was advised by Destiny Hagest of the marketing department to post my response here, as you are now reading these threads. I heard you are going home either today or tomorrow, December 29th, feast of the Holy Family and this is very encouraging news! You will do well!

It pains me to report that John has gone.

He died peacefully in his sleep yesterday, surrounded by his family, to whom I send my most profound sympathies.

I'm pretty much out of words now, but you know how much I think of you.  Sending you all the peace and love and joy I can muster for you.

I knew there was a reason we liked you, John!
(well, besides all the wonderful stewardship and great conversations on these forums.)
Ernie would give his eye teeth, or at least a molar, to go do Antarctic research.  Wish we had more time to swap stories.

Glad you got to be home again before leaving.
If your family needs anything, we're here.

(To the Polk family: If I knew you better, I'd be more specific about what needs we can offer.  John's words are all over the place here to visit when you need, and plenty of folks who are no strangers to loss.  Maybe even a few who might enjoy practicing what they learned from John on his behalf if the chore situation gets desperate.   So stop back by if you get lonesome.)

Love and a hot cuppa tea,
Erica W
