Wanna Back the BEL?  Now receiving contributions via paypal and coinbase via the email address bel at permies.com

Or you can contribute to the fundraiser, here.

We all love to see all the wonderful, inspiring, and ground-breaking work being done to advance Permaculture at Wheaton Labs.  Most of that work is done by the boots in the Permaculture Bootcamp.

The thing is, if we do these awesome things and nobody ever hears about it, who cares?  On the other hand, if we do these awesome things, post a few pictures, and maybe tell a brief tale about the undertaking, people see it, love it, and are inspired to do similar things in their neck of the woods.  And, over time, the world does indeed change for the better.

To incentivize this participation in the bootcamp and posting of activities, we're rolling out the BEL program, or the Bootcamp Experience Log.  It works like this:

1) Join the Bootcamp.
2) Start a thread here at permies to share what you're doing with the world.
3) After 100 posts, you get to Ring the BEL, and you get 10% of the money in the BEL.
4) More people invest in the BEL due to your wonderful experience log, the BEL grows, rinse and repeat unto glory.

People put up good money to reward boots for sharing, so at this time, the reward is pretty significant.  I can't say how much, but I know the last boot to ring the bell got well into 4 digits for his generous sharing of his experience.  I'm hoping that, in time, the pile of money gets bigger and bigger, while more and more boots are coming and cashing in.

Here are the folks who have put up coin sing the dawn of the BEL:

AnonA  $10k
AnonM  $2000
AnonG   $1500
AnonD   $1000
Vention  $1000
Anon963  $800
Akkaydrah  $100
Dave     $100
Clay      $100
Barbara   $50

Awesome Bootcamp Experience Logs:
- SEPP to Boot: Stephen's Experience
- Jen Tulli's Bootcamp Experience
- Dez's Bootcamp Experience
- Josiah's Bootcamp Log
- Jen's Boot Camp and Allerton Abbey Experience

I want to see the bel ring for $100.
I thought I was a bell - I was always being told.

Nice.

Are you cool with either coinbase or paypal? If so, I'll send you the address. If not, what method were you thinking?

Hi Beau, hi Boots,
I’d chip in a small contribution.
Do you think it would be more convenient to just give us a contact that we can PayPal money to?
Also, is there a way to see how much is in the pot?
Excited to see how much participation will be inspired by this, both from the boots and the permie community.

So far, we have easy transaction methods with coinbase and paypal.  We have not yet been asked to figure out a different thing.

Not doing paper mail for this at this time, though you might be able to send gifts directly to a boot at the Lab.

Great question!  Maybe Stephen would have some input here.

Yep, that's the one.

We've not made any specific requests lately. Care packages are always welcome. We have a solid, larger Boot crew right now, and for example they may have some food requests.

I threw $100 at the BEL.

My $0.02, go wider on the receiving apps, at least include Venmo, Cash, and Zelle.  I get a number of younger folks asking for those when paying.
I would also offer some form of subscription link ($x/month) as it may drive more adoption.

Cheers,
Dave

Got your $ Dave, thank you!

Thanks once again to all the Wheaton Labs supporters for their generosity and encouragement. While I've hit a significant milestone with this post, I still intend to update periodically provided folks find it useful and/or entertaining.

The BEL is currently valued at a bit over $15,000.
That means the payout for the next bell-ringer will be at least $1500.
As far as I'm aware, though there are a few boots on the ground, Lisa is the only one actively sharing her daily permaculture bootcamp activities in her BEL thread:
https://permies.com/t/268237/Story-Boot-BEL

I'd love to see more boots sharing pictures.  Make it worth their while by backing the BEL:

$1788
