I submit shovelling the driveway.

It took about 6 hours for me to shovel out the top half of the driveway.  I assume it would take a healthy person about 2-4 hours.

we had a lot of snow - unseasonably late, wet snow.

this is the tool I used to move the snow

first I make a path. Things would have gone quicker if I had waited until after it stopped snowing

more snow moved. The pile on the side is getting pretty high. The snow appears to be letting up and the sun going down, so I quit for the night. this was a mistake as there was another four inches overnight.

Staff note (paul wheaton):

I think this is a nest BB

I submit making wax food wraps

It takes about an hour to make half a dozen of these.

I wash the cloth first.  Source the wax from a local, organic, apiary.

Cut the fabric to shape and get a chunk of beeswax. These ones I used just beeswax, but a bit of olive oil mixed with the wax works too
IMG_2290.JPG
[Thumbnail for IMG_2290.JPG]
make certain the shavings are evenly spaced
IMG_2295.JPG
[Thumbnail for IMG_2295.JPG]
stick them in the oven on low until melted and the cloth is fully saturated with the wax

after hanging to cool and oxidize, the wax wraps are ready to use to keep food fresh. Better than plastic!
Staff note (paul wheaton):

I certify 1 oddball point.

I submit making pasta from flour and egg!

The first few times it took about two hours, but now I have it down to about half an hour.

IMG_0038.JPG
[Thumbnail for IMG_0038.JPG]
step one - milk the chickens (farmer joke). But seriously, the better quality and fresher the egg, the better the pasta
IMG_2395.JPG
[Thumbnail for IMG_2395.JPG]
Mix the egg and flour (maybe a pinch of salt) then start kneading the dough.

I use a pasta maker for this part

[Thumbnail for IMG_2402.JPG]
I hang the pasta to dry a bit before cooking.

mmmm... Kale pesto! Delicious!
Staff note (paul wheaton):

I think that rather than an oddball point, this should be added to the cooking and food preservation badge.
