Interesting tool that bar. I do something similar using a power puller and a hefty length of chain. Cinch the chain about 10' up the tree. lead to another tree down range and attach tackle to it. Pay out the cable thru the block and to the chain. Other end cinched to base of tree. 6-7 pulls once taught can really put some pull on the tree. Then I proceed with the back cut.

Kudos for doing it by hand. The badge is well deserved cuz its a lot of work.

There's a mimosa tree that keeps blocking my driveway.  They're an invasive species so I don't have much compunction about cutting it down.

Here is my submission for the Woodland Care - Sand - Drop a Live Standing Tree Manually BB.

While at Wheaton Labs for BB20, I consulted with Josiah on a tree that needed felling.  We selected an 8" live tree that is south of the Wofati Greenhouse and will provide unwanted shade when the greenhouse is finished.  I was excited to try out the Silky Katanaboy saw for this project.

To document the completion of the BB, I have provided the following:
 - chosen tree to cut - my hand is on the selected tree.  The timber tool is leaning on the bigger tree behind it.
 - Action shot
 - Wedge cut and timber tool in place ready for back cut
 - Fallen tree

working with hand tools gives me a new appreciation for power tools!
