No harvest pics, so this is not finished yet. Dad and I have been doing log inoculation this afternoon. Having a coffee break now half way through. 8 logs done.
Ours are 80cm, because we had to move them from the woods in the back of the car.
King Oyster mushrooms.
Elsewhere we have a new bed of King Stropharia in woodchips. Next week will be Shitake logs.
Edit: phone died part way through. We did 16 logs like in the photo, which took us about 3 hours. As a useful reference for the future, 1kg of spawn inoculated one car load of logs. It went further than anticipated. We will need to cut more logs before we do the shitake. There was about one log worth of spawn left. I’m vaguely wondering if I can use it to get another batch of sawdust spawn started.

Shiitake in the shade of my kiwi. 3 logs about 5 feet long.

I ordered 500 shiitake plugs from field & forest last spring and inoculated some oak logs with them. I started to get a few mushrooms in the fall 2019 and more this spring. I already had a good fruiting flush last month but this recent one is even better.
The picture showed logs with about 400 plugs, as I have a bigger stump too heavy to move for photo shoot (fruiting on that one too). I am picking the shiitake over several days so not able to show all the harvest at once. Here is the 5 lbs batch sitting on the trailer to dry. I estimated the total yield to be 25 to 30 lbs for the season.
