Tom Swift was the main character in a series of science fiction novels for kids. The first was published in 1910 and publication stopped a little before WW2. One of the more memorable traits was the redundant writing style which was assigned the label of being a “Tom Swiftie”. Examples might be:
“Run!” He said quickly.
“This tastes great”, he ruminated.
“I’ve been stung!” He said pointedly.
Back in the 60s this was brought back with the help of Chicago DJ Art Roberts. In Jr High we drove our teachers crazy.
Anyway, can anyone else come up with a Tom Swiftie?
I want to be 15 again …so I can ruin my life differently.
"The thermostat is set too high," said Tom heatedly.
