I was just shy of 55 when we bought this place. I'm 62, now, so it's only been 7yrs. My advice is don't do it. At least, not going 'out to the country', where you'll be far from everything. My strong suggestion would be to just move to the outskirts of town - outside of city limits, where you'll have more space, more freedom to do 'all the things', but still be close to the infrastructure that provides easy access to grocers, healthcare, pharmacy, emergency services, gas stations, friends, entertainment, auto repair, and hardware stores.
