This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the sand badge in woodland care.

In some forested areas, there is an overabundance of small trees.  In some cases they are already dead and waiting to fuel a forest fire.  Let's make use of them by turning them into building materials.

They need to be at least 8' long once cut so choose your junk trees carefully.

Cut them down, remove all limbs and stack off the ground to dry.  They don't need to be peeled.

To get certified for this BB, post the following pics.

Here's my stack and the falls I acquired them from.

From first to third skid is 7ft to judge size. I left them long to meet requirement, but my need is more like a 5ft junkpole fence. Im going to make a junk hay ring around a fruit tree to keep cows and deer out of them. So these 10 8ft plus and 2 6ft poles may get me 22 poles total depending on bends.

Here are my junkpoles.  We cut them in one area and transported them to Allerton Abbey for storage/use.  Mine is the pile with the yellow circle around it in the second picture.

My 10 are on the left. Cut 4-5 days ago, we didn’t come back this way to get my stacked picture until just now (on Tuesday). I cut mine off generally at about +/- 9 feet, before we were told that longer was just fine too!

Here are the 10 junkpoles I prepped. From my photo it will be left of Mike's. In his photo they're on the right next to his stack.

I cut my junkpoles down with a box saw. This is a picture of me sawing one of them down.

These are my ten junkpoles before I limbed them.

I cut down two more junkpoles, since I thought that one of the junkpoles I cut down way too bowed to be useful. I limbed the additional lwo before I stacked them.

This is my eleven junkpoles that I cut, limbed, and placed off the ground. The one that was way too bowed was left to return to the soil.
