It's hard to find "junkpoles" in sagebrush territory. I had to search for overgrown aspen groves on somebody's lawn. But eventually I found 10 poles the right size.

My 9 year old son wants to make a wikiup out of them. Doesn't that sound like a bonding project?

I knocked over these trees and limbed them.

They are propped them up on some logs.

10 junk poles. The one on the far right I cut at just over 10' to be my "measuring rod" for the others.

At Wheaton labs, I cut down 10 junk poles by myself that were just over 8 feet long. Choose trees that needed to be thinned and were crowding others, allowing the biggers to get bigger and flourish. I removed all limbs, and then relocated the poles closer to the road for anyone to use. One photo showing the 8 feet, and the other showing the 10 junk poles off the ground.

Here are the ten junk poles I collected during the SKIP 2024 workshop. Most were a smaller tree growing too close to a larger young tree for either to thrive.

I stacked them on two stumps located conveniently close to where I felled them. Since they had to be stacked so closely together to fit on the stumps I’ve included extra pictures so you can count and see their measure. The smallest is about 8’ 6”.

If you were a tree, what sort of tree would you be? This tiny ad is a poop beast.
