Today was cleaning out the Cottage Rocket, learning how to sharpen a chain saw, then having a meeting about The Abyss - no, not the cool, sci-fi movie. The long list of improvements and projects that need to happen around here.

During lunch I listened to Zach Weiss' discussion about "Healing Communities and Ecosystems with Water Restoration." I got into it late cause I forgot about it for a bit then couldn't get the software downloaded on my phone quickly enough. What I did hear gave me a few ideas about some improvements for the waterways on my plot. I hope they make it available at some point because I'd like to hear the whole thing. πŸ€”πŸŒŠ

After lunch we had a gardening meeting where six of us picked out hugels near the house (zone 1) to be /our gardens/ here at Basecamp. The thought of being able to putz around in two different gardens around here sold me. Some brain days are definitely putz in the garden days.

The hillside I picked out looks like it's mostly full sun until late afternoon, so I looked up some plants for this zone that could survive. Then I checked our seed inventory list to see what we had available. For the first round of planting, I got a couple varieties of Fava beans, a couple peas, a flower, and a couple flower bulbs. I don't think I've actually ever eaten Fava beans before. If they grow, I'll hopefully enjoy them. The peas were sugar snap varieties, so if they actually grow I'm hoping they're good because I like those. The flowers are poppies, the bulbs.. Maybe a freesia and something else.. πŸ€”πŸ€¦πŸΌ

Second round of planting has a wider variety since it should be warmer by then. 🀞🏻🀞🏻 So far, a bunch of different herbs, both culinary and medicinal. I want to get some tomatoes going, peppers, squash, zucchini, and maybe a melon. Then more flowers for pollinators and aesthetics. πŸ˜πŸ¦‹πŸπŸžπŸŒΈπŸŒ»πŸŒΌπŸ΅οΈπŸπŸ¦‹

I'm thinking I may need to build a trellis/pergola to help with midday shade during the hottest parts of the summer. 🌞😎 Something for my plant babies to climb and shade their friends. 🌱 We'll see..

But now I'm sitting here watching videos about gardening with the Ruth Stout method and reading about rhizobium bacteria. How's your Thursday night? πŸ“–πŸ˜…πŸ€“

Hi Nine, me here just asking people about any inkling they might have towards a plot they might be thinking of claiming....what's your preference?

It could also be super crazy looking because it smashed a vein. I'll try to remember to have my husband look at the picture (he's a vampire phlebotomist and deals with hand veins all the time, and I know they can do some pretty crazy stuff if someone stinks at drawing blood or putting in an IV)

Hey Orin! I claimed plot 2. If you go back a few pages you'll see that we started deconstruction a little in the house to make a better layout for us.

I heard you're coming back. πŸŽ‰  How soon do you arrive?

Seriously Rick? Seriously? You might as well just read this tiny ad:
