First, raven posted an idea.  And then we had a meeting today and more ideas compounded over and over.  And now I am thinking I want to try something.

Our primary mission is to infect brains with permaculture stuff.  We are constantly experimenting with ways to do that better.  So this would be yet another experiment in this space to try ...

Maybe on monday, I will start a "blitz for the tour movie".  It will last seven days and at the end of the seven days, everybody that owns the tour movie will get bonus candy (if this works).

The idea is that we harvest acorns, and the more acorns we harvest, the more candy is given to the people that have the tour movie.   First the list of acorns, and then the list of candy:

facebook

    (acorn) 25 shares
    (acorn) 50 shares
    (acorn) 75 shares

    (acorn) 125 shares

    (acorn) 15 pages

sales of the tour movie during the blitz

    (acorn) 20
    (acorn) 40
    (acorn) 60
    (acorn) 80

Current ideas for candy

5 acorns - PIE

10 acorns - helen atthow presentation from 177 hours

15 acorns - a presentation from permaculture voices

20 acorns - a presentation from the garden master course

25 acorns - a bonus gift code of the tour movie to give to a friend

30 acorns - the michael judd webinar

35 acorns - all the podcasts as zip files

40 acorns - the hugelkultur documentary (1 gift code)

45 acorns - world domination gardening 3-movie set (1 gift code)

So, if seven days pass and we have 25 acorns, then everybody that has the tour movie will also get PIE, three awesome presentations plus an extra gift code for the movie.

So this is the beginning of this idea.  What might be some other social media metrics to work with?

Other ideas for candy?

Other ideas?

Something in my mind, but I don't know how to go with this.

We have a system for affiliate links for items on the digital market.  people get an individual link.  They share that link.  They get a kickback whenever someone buys with that link.

... is there a way to count who got the most sales?  Maybe they get a reward?  Like a contest?  Then they get two rewards - first reward money, second one the prize?

I don't know.  Maybe that's silly.
Just tossing ideas out there.

I like this idea, what about adding likes and comments to the Facebook stuff. Maybe

(acorn) 10 likes
(acorn) 25 likes
(acorn) 50 likes
(acorn) 100 likes

As for comments to acorns I have no ideas.

Posts with high likes and comments maybe more likely to show up in a persons feed on Facebook. When I see a post with a lot of likes and comments I am more likely to read that post.

If you have an affiliate code on permies, you can actually set custom tracking numbers!

I learned about this from Devaka

Devaka Cooray wrote:Yup, we do:
https://permies.com/wiki/151676/Permies-affiliate-trackers

Basically just create a tracker from the affiliate console and append the automatically generated tracker ID (NOT the "tag" name) as ?t=...

When I went to the affiliate console (https://permies.com/forums/affiliate/list#console), I saw a little help button in the Tracker tab, and it took me to this thread: https://permies.com/wiki/151676/Permies-affiliate-trackers (which is the same one Devaka mentioned, but my kids kept asking me questions while I tried to figure this out)

I still need to figure out how this all works, but for now, I need to teach my kids phonics

I think participants in this first initiative of its kind will have great feedback in additional outlets . . .

I'm confused, though, because I figure that if I put in the URL and a tag, it should just give me the tracker ID for that product. Instead, this seems to be the steps I need to take to get the tracker code.

(1) Go to the affiliate console https://permies.com/forums/affiliate/list#console

(2) Go to the tracking tab in the console and try to make a custom tracking code. I'm not sure what "tag" means or the URL. Intuitively, I think I'm supposed to put the URL of the digital market product I want to get a tracking number for, and put the code I want in the "tag" area. I fear that this is not the right way

Am I doing this right?

(3) This didn't give me the link and tracking code I wanted. It didn't even put my affiliate code on the link, so I don't even quite know what this is doing....

I'm obviously not understanding something here...

(4) Go to "My Affiliations." I don't currently have a affiliate link for the Tour, so I click a different product's button.

I should be able to get the affiliate code here, and then apply it to the tour...

(5) Select the tracker ID I made (Yeah, I made a lot in the process of making these screenshots and trying to figure this out.)

Click the tracker. This will hopefully generate the code

(6) Isolate the tracking code from the URL it generated

Finally! The tracking code....but it's nothing like the tag I made. Why did I make a tag?

(7) Attach that tracking code and my affiliate number to the tour link. So it'll look like https://permies.com/w/tour?f=100&t=2zvc

Now I have a link with a tracking code. I'm thinking (hoping) there's a lot faster way to do that than the way I did it!

Quick question...  At the top of that thread it ends the first paragraph with:

every new milestone reached will unlock more free content for everyone who buys the movie!

Does that include people who already bought it or who got it through the kickstarter?  Might want to clarify if that is the case so that everyone know they're in the "good" group.

Well, the blitz for the tour movie ended.  No candy.

We are now doing the blitz for the berm shed movie.  We set all the goals much lower - so it should be really easy to knock out a lot of acorns so that everybody gets lots of candy.  Everybody that bought it directly, or got it through the kickstarter will get the bonus candy.  I think i said that in the kickstarter updates today.

Is this more clear?

every new acorn achieved will unlock more free content for everyone who owns the movie
