While I like to make progress on my own stuff, right now, working for someone else would fit better for where I am at right now.

A part of permaculture, for me, is sustainable finances. I haven't found employment to be a sustainable source of finances for me, since it eats up all of my time that I use to ~save~ money. The more I work, the more I spend and I'm miserable doing it to boot.

Since being on unemployment and running my homestead full-time, I've never been happier. The homestead strategy right now is to figure out how the homestead can produce enough cash to replace my UI checks. Not getting a lot of cash flow yet, but making moves in the right direction.

So yeah, wouldn't want to spend any time on someone else's project. The time is more valuable, and I'd love to get two years of free cash.

It's all about me. For a few reasons...

First of all, I hope they know what they are getting into, funding my project. Gonna take a lot of machine hours... And since they are paying, I'm hiring a crew! Might as well buy the 5 acres next door and include that too!

2 years of funding and I might have enough going here that I won't need too much more income. Forever.

How do I know these guys are gonna be doing something I consider useful/ethical/right!?!?! Hahaha.

Mine. Easy peasy. Only way I see that I wouldn't choose mine is if it had to pay for the next 3 years after without my working at anything but the results mine produced. Even then if I was fully funded getting setup I think I would have a really solid chance of making that work.

Country oriented nerd with primary interests in alternate energy in particular solar. Dabble in gardening, trees, cob, soil building and a host of others.

I think the answers really show our real-world permie struggles, so thank you for asking it. Puts it in my top 5 "Would you rather...?"
Mine, hands down. 2 years is a short time in permie-world, but it's a start. And while learning on someone else's land for 5 years would be an amazing experience, I feel like my time on this planet is short enough as it is.

For me, it depends. If the 5 year permaculture job is an opportunity to create permaculture amazingness that will cause 1000s of people to realize how amazing permaculture can be and if it lines up with my values then I'm all in for the 5 year gig. Plus, how lovely would it be to design and work for 5 years with a team of folks that share my values that are creating a true permaculture paradise to win hearts and minds? I'll be dead and gone one of these days and my forest garden may likely die with me (though I REALLY hope not) so something longer lasting would be pretty satisfying to me.
