June 24th 2025
While the east side of the country is sweltering in a heat wave.
Meanwhile, here in the north west, I lit off Shorty on the summer solstice, 45 degrees overnight and a high of 49!
On Sunday night, I had to light her off again!  Although it was 46 this morning, we did not have a fire last night, but there certainly were no open windows overnight!
This morning, we have thick fog, and it has warmed up to 49 degrees now, with humidity at 89%.
They are calling for it to clear off in a few hours and become sunny with a high just over 80.
Then we cool back into the 70s for the rest of the week.
The 90s and 100s are no doubt waiting in the wings to arrive in July and August, but when they do, the humidity will be around 20%.
I love the North West!

I got this message today:

Your package is on its way to an area that may be experiencing high temperatures. If you won’t be available to bring it inside, you can hold your package at a nearby location to avoid extreme temperatures.

Duh, it is hot everyday so what is different?

Hey, I am in sunny hot Texas ...

BTW, got a new to us A/C yesterday because the compressor of our A/C would not shut off and it was too cold at night ...

Hi Anne;
For us, open windows overnight are the equivalent of air conditioning. (There is a part of August when I wish we had A/C)
Are you in the humid part of Texas?
Having grown up in it, I moved 2,500 miles to escape 98% humidity!

Did they just realize it gets hot there??? I'm sure that delivery truck is air conditioned!! (eyeroll)

I wish i could send you all some cold. its 12C/53F in my office right now (6C outside) and we had a hard frost this morning. I'm going out to take a ride in the sun in my warm car in hopes of feeling my hands again!! Woot southern hemisphere winter.... and yet, the tomatoes were sheltered and survived (and are covered in flowers) and the peas and cabbage are loving this weather. Can't complain.

Thomas,

Here in New York it is sweltering! It is not only the heat, but the humidity.

I would be more than happy to trade our temperatures if you are willing.

Stay... tempid? I'm not sure if I should worry about the heat or the cold these days with how the temperatures swing!

Yup, in southern Connecticut, where I grew up right on Long Island Sound, it would be 98 degrees and 98% humidity all day.
At night, it would "cool" to 85 degrees with 98% humidity!
Then, about 4 am, the winds would shift, and instead of blowing hot, humid air from inland, they would blow in cool (moist) air from the ocean... until the sun arrived, and then it would start all over again.
Despite my family's protests (from My Mom), at 18, I moved 2,500 miles to the mountains.
I occasionally visit, but I would not live in high humidity ever again!
My roots are in New England, but my body resides in the Northwest.

Southern tip of Illinois.  If you are not familiar with Illinois geography, think Kentucky and definitely not Chicago!

Yesterday it was at least 97 degrees and it felt like that was the humidity as well.

Days like this I am envious of Thomas with his mountain air!  I am sort of a Northerner transplanted into the border South.

I would call this a heat wave, but this is just typical Southern Illinois summer weather.

10:45 am here in central Virginia and it's 89 F with a forecast of 100 F.  At least the humidity is down to around 57 %, so it's not a really bad hair day !!!

Some of us no longer need to worry about bad hair days as we don't have enough hair to worry about !!!

Peace

I live about 60 miles from Eric.  We began seeing our normal July weather a little after mid June.  What was strange this year was the rain the started in March and seems to have ended in mid June.

No humidity here.  I am on the edge of West Texas in the beautiful Hill Country ...

Montana, a few miles west of Helena, the capitol.  5000 foot eleavation, zone 3 - 4.

This weekend I spent several hours covering things in my gardens, (I have 3 and they are each a different mini climate) and was glad I did as it may be the 3rd week of June, but our temps were in the low 30's.  My weather station said it got to 32 at night.

I did not lose any plants though!!

Our humidity has bounced around from a high of 95% to a low of 55% over the day. We aren't likely going to meet our average rainfall, but it keeps threatening.

Summer for us is generally "hot when the sun shines, and cold as soon as it starts to go down".  But it seems colder than usual this year.

North central Wyoming.  In the last week we have seen 48 degrees F one morning and an afternoon that reached 111 degrees F.  We are about 2 weeks from the peak summer heat that will last typically 6 weeks and first frost is typically first week in Sept.  So far the air is clear but we should be smoked in any time now and be that way the rest of the summer.  Humidity is typically 20% to 40%.  Usually mid low to mid 30s.

Here in the Southern Hemisphere, it's winter, so variable weather, at least we are getting some rain, but the changing climate means that it's not to be relied upon.  All subject to change without notice. Temps. 8°C to 18°C  or thereabouts.  I find that cold . . .
