This thread is to ask questions about the secret inner circle forum.

First, thanks to the coderanch staff, we have some new features that make it so that we can add people en masse to a hidden forum. This is done with a list of email addresses.

Kickstarter will provide me with all of the email addresses for all supporters. I will then put all of those emails into jforum along with the instruction to add those people to the secret inner circle forum. Jforum will then add all of those accounts with matching emails to the forum! Those people will then be able to see a forum called "secret inner circle". It will be at the bottom of all the forums.

I have not done this yet, but we are starting the work to do it.

We will do this twice. And that's it.

If the email given to kickstarter is different from the email in permies, then you will not get access to the forum. If you do not yet have a permies.com account when we do this, then your account will not be given access.

We were able to offer this as a reward at a very low cost because we could do this one time. We cannot afford to give any individual support for this.

And I should mention that the CodeRanch staff have also given us a similar feature for handing out mass apples. I can see doing that for some apples too.

I changed my permies email to match my kickstarter email as soon as I read update #9. Does this also send the dailyish emails there so I can have them in on place?

I dont know if this is a good idea Paul
I wonder if this is getting far too complicated - apples -cider press - secret minion army - now this new thing . Will this complication lead to a them and us attitude ? secret information only the initiates and illuminati know? Will people begin to feel manipulated ?
I accept I could be wrong but do you see what I mean ? You have built a winning formula by being open and free with information and I see this as a possible step away from a winning formula back to the realms of secrets and paying for information . If you want to do that then as a buisness model it can work but trying to do both I dont think does .

David, Maybe try looking at this as 'zones' (as in permaculture) around Paul's 'home'.
...or maybe I just need more coffee and that doesn't make sense at all:)

What is the goal of having such an inner circle? Does it serve to "infect as many minds with permaculture as possible"? If it doesn't, that's ok too. I'm just curious.

The daily-ish email is separate from the forums and kickstarter.

THE email address on kickstarter will be fed into the algorithm here. IF there is a match on permies, that account will get access and no other.

It will definitely be a "us and them". There will still be a hundred forums for everybody and one for "us". The great thing is that the "us" forum will be private from search engines like google, spammers, trolls, sockpuppets, etc.

As for people feeling manipulated: I don't see how you got there.

I think it gives people a private circle to share with.

If nothing else, let's try it and see what happens.

I think it will be nice.

Secret from spammers, trolls, etc etc

Count me as one of those confused by the Inner Circle idea. I get that it's desirable to target some discussions to folks that have demonstrated their commitment. But it competes with the existing forums. And how do you structure discussion in the Inner Circle? Is it going to mirror all the public forums?

David, do you spread the word 24 hours per day?

Do you sleep in public?

When you are getting divorced (or have some other similar life event), do you talk about it with strangers publicly?

Is there ever a time that you wish to discuss things with close friends, but not to the big wide world?

This is an experiment. It sounds like some of us will do this experiment without you.

Hi Paul,
I'm a fan of your work and have just joined the forum.
I supported both kickstarters (rocket mass heaters and hugeklultur) . Hope to be added to the 'us' forum when you do round 2 of the en masse adding.

Cheers from Thailand.

Be patient folks, I believe they are working on getting everyone added to the secret forum.

It is good to speak up here as a double check, so you won't get lost.

And welcome to Permies everyone, be sure to have a look around at all of the other threads here!

Hi - me too! I donated for both the cards and the videos and just realized it is a different email address on Kickstarter. I just updated my email in the Permies account to match so hopefully it will catch up with each other eventually.

Thanks!

After reading Project Update #10 email I have changed my email address here on permies.com to match the one used for kickstarter. Just letting you know that I'm still unable to access the Inner Circle forum from the link, nor to see it at the bottom of the main forum page.

Hello Paul,

Thanks for all the good stuff and keep up the good work. I participated to Stoves, cards and now World Domination Gardening.

I just registered to the forum using my same email as the kickstarterS.
Thank you for adding me and the others whenever you got a minute.

Cheers from Quebec.

My Permies and Kickstarter addresses were different too, and I can't see the forum. I do read the emails but not always right away and didn't catch this until now.

I doubt I belong in an inner circle, but it's a bummer to lose privileges for this kind of glitch.

I suppose the good news is that more than 444 people were on both lists.

Which Kickstarter projects qualified for this? I was able to donate for the Playing cards (got a brick) and the RMH DVDS (got the full set) but not to the earthworks DVD (moths in the wallet this time around).

I supported the World Domination Gardening kickstarter, and I have an account here at Permies, and the emails match... but I'm not sure how to access the "Inner Forum" there were no instructions in the email I received this morning, except to ask questions inside the forum...

but I'm not sure where said forum is...

I have the same email address for both, but don't see a secret forum, perhaps it has something to do with the trouble I had with processing the payment?
