So, am I the only one who...
I get the dailyish, check out the links, maybe feel inspired enough to make a reply post right on the spot. Nothing works. Oops! I'm not logged in (though I never log out). I think no problem, and log in, only to lose my place on the page and am forced to reroute myself back thru the link. Why can't I be redeposited to the page I was connecting with? It frustrates me and honestly, some days I won't complete that reply post. I want to, but I'll decide to skip the hassle, and go on with my day.

Surely I'm not the only one having such an experience, but maybe I am. Even an explanation would be helpful at this point. Thanks.

You could open the log in page in a new tab, and then when you've logged in, just refresh the thread you were going to reply to, and you'll now be logged in on that tab as well and can reply.

Permies never logs me out. I think that's regulated by a session timeout cookie. In general, I'd assume you have your browser set to clear cookies when you close the browser or a more exotic security plugin doing stuff. But if that was it, I'd expect all or most websites to behave the same way for you and your "though I never log out" comment makes it sound unexpected, i.e. different from how other sites treat you. Is that right? And what browser are you using?

Now you are speaking in the same Greek that my son does. I vaguely understand the gist but I don't mess with most electronics. Most of my surfing happens on my cell, but this interaction I'm typing is on a Fire tablet. The cell is Android. Occasionally I am on a laptop running some version of Windows.

The never log out is just that. I never log out of facebook, amazon, probably a couple other places, an illnd when I return to them I am still logged in as me, not a guest. Not so with permies. If I'm not visiting here daily perhaps, I end up having to log back in when following those links.

If its something on my end, I'll talk to my son or husband. My expertise is not in this field. If its something on your end, if not a fixable issue, just say so. Then I'll know to expect it.
Thanks

It's been nearly 10 years since permies logged me out.

It could be your browser settings logging you out.

Under tinkering with this site there is a thread about when a new member signs up or a new log in it does not return to the original page.  This was frustrating one of Paul's  campaigns.  This seems never to have been resolved.
There seems to be an aggressive campaign with security updates to cancel log in settings and require multiple devices to log back in.  At least permies has not gone that far. It would be helpful if those code ranch hands could figure out how to return to the page one logs in from.

When I'm using my tablet, permies always logs me out and I have to log back in. I usually have lots of permies tabs open, so when I lose my place on log in (yes you're not the only one!) it usually isn't a problem. I have to be careful if composing a reply to make sure I copy it, or have logged in first just in case.
My PC never logs me out, which is much nicer

So -
1) being logged out seems to be platform dependent, so if one knew how to change this, seems to be in the user hands.
2) losing your place on logging in is a permies feature, and might be on the list of things that would be nice to change (if the programmers' priorities allows..)

Thanks for raising the issue Deedee.

I appreciate the feedback. I seem to have this problem more since our move which is where I lost my desktop and am reduced to access via a fire tablet, my Android cell phone, or the occasional laptop. If its on my end, I may have to just live with it. I brought it up in case it isn't just me, and there could be a fix on the other end.
I'm of mixed emotions that I'm Not the only one!

Just caught another glitch in the machine... Above post was made 9:08 p.m. and I get that here is posted Ranch time in Montana. I'm in WV. Not a 4 hour difference. Have your clocks already "fallen back"? I thought that was next weekend!

You can edit the wtime zone it shows and if it shows date or "...ago" in the profile.  It might be a pie feature.

The ...ago drove me mad, so I set mine to the time/date.

Edit to add, it doesn't always display in ranch time.
