I was going to begin a thread about bamboo and thought bamboo might have it's own forum but couldn't find one.

A search shows 166 threads with 'bamboo' in the subject line so maybe enough to have it's own forum?

https://permies.com/forums?module=search&action=search&forum_id=-1&search_keywords=bamboo&match_type=exact&search_in=SUBJECT&forum=&groupByTopic=true&sort_by=time&sort_dir=DESC&search_date=ALL&member_number=&member_first_name=&member_last_name=&member_match_type=memberPosted

I can go through and copy links here, to this thread in a day or so if it's worthwhile😊

I guess its a question about whether it will improve the site.
Is 166 alot of topics?

Is 166 a lot of topics?

I think 50 threads is usually the minimum to start a new forum.

Seems like it would cause overlap and confusion, to me.

Bamboo growing has a forum

Bamboo woodworking has a forum

Bamboo composting has a forum

Reusing bamboo products has a forum

If we add a bamboo forum now each of those could end up in the bamboo forum instead but they arent really related to each other at all.

I think sticking to verbs, what you do with the material, is better than having forums for the material itself.

A thread (topic) can be in more than one forum so even though bamboo topics would be all in one forum each one can be in additional forums.
So a thread topic about bamboo used for building would be in the bamboo forum and also maybe natural building or one of the construction forums.
and if the thread was about cooking bamboo sprouts it would be in the bamboo forum and in the cooking forum.

It's definitely a multi use plant!
