Growing up, I was not a napper. It was go-go-go until bed time. This lasted until I met my wife who comes from a family of nappers. I have now become a napper!

In general, I feel really slow and cruddy after a nap. If I'm sick or had a run of more than three bad nights of sleep, I might nap anyway because staying awake is worse than what the nap will do to me, but I prefer not to. On the other hand, I sit at a desk for a living and I get really sleepy every early afternoon at work.

only in the past decade but more recently this breathing thing when reclining or laying down has interfered.   Steve is a regular after lunch napper now that he is not working away from home.
We never had really comfortable daytime napping chairs until recently...we got some old, seventies style lazy boy recliners a few years ago and now see the attraction...then we can feel like we have not gone to bed in the middle of the day to nap.

In the afternoons, I watch Bewitched.  I sometimes fall asleep and have to "rewind" the show.

I accidentally found the show "Catfish" so sometimes I might watch that one, instead.

I take a 20 minute nap every afternoon when I'm working or have the time (on non-working days). Usually if I'm working I need to reset my focus, if I'm not working I'm in the garden or something where I don't need this mental reset so I skip it. The busier my work is, the more important the nap becomes-- I prefer to wake up early instead of skip my nap.

My nap is a quick routine that works like a charm: a few minutes doing DuoLingo practicing the language of the day, plus the quick Wordle puzzle (together, maybe 11 minutes), then bam, nap, I'm out like a light. I often wake up 30 seconds before my alarm goes off and bounce out of bed, works better than coffee for a pick-me-up.

I really appreciate my mid day nap on work days.  Not so important when I am at home.

Yes. Maybe about 2:00 pm I nap for about an hour +/- 1/2 hour.  It seems to refresh me.

It takes me a long time to fall asleep - always. I have never successfully napped, not even in preschool (maybe I took naps as a baby?). I sleep very well at night, however, as long as I am in my own bed. Travel is very hard in terms of sleep. Any times I tried napping, I ended up groggy or feeling worse in general. Not my cup of tea.

I occasionally nap. I do it more since I had my knee replacement and I consider it important for healing. But, I don't nap regularly.

There is something wonderfully delicious about closing eyes, feet up, relaxed, 20 minutes of being "off patrol" and not responsible for anything. Usually early afternoon, most every day. The rest of the day goes better afterwards.
The National Sleep Foundation says this about napping...

I need just a second, to be "gone", like a little computer restart. Relax body, no thoughts of here, no thoughts....  dream flow and "gone".
Put the alarm at 15 minutes mostly, sometimes shorter. Can do it in my van nodding off or on grass.
Powernap. It's a world of difference after that lasts all through the rest of day.

I can drag myself through the day if clients have no time for it.. but then i drink even more coffee and life gets stressy instead of productive. Nowadays i notice if i don't put the alarm it can take half an hour to an hour so it slowly becomes a midday sleep.

I nap when I need to, depending on what my health is up to that day.

Some days no naps, some days one, occasionally several. Time of day varies, length of nap varies. If I try to not nap when my body says I need it, I WILL regret it! I'm learning to trust my body's judgement on the matter. If it says I need sleep, then I need to give it what it needs.

Attempts at introducing a regular nap at a regular time have totally, utterly failed though. If I don't need it, then it ends up totally counterproductive trying to encourage one.

I've also noticed that how well I slept the previous night has absolutely no influence on how much I need to nap the next day. Some days I sleep solid all night and still need three naps. Other days it's the opposite, and any combination in between.

I would every day if I could but my work schedule doesn’t allow for it. A half hour bro is a great thing.

I practiced polyphasic sleep, and in the course of doing so learned how to take REM cycle 20 minute naps.

I schedule my core sleep to 90 minute rem cycles to not wait groggy, but if I'm doing a 20 minute nap, as long as I set the alarm for 20 minutes, I will wake refreshed and energized for the next 2-4 hours rather than groggy.

20 minute naps are something I do to either replace missing sleep (one 20 minute nap equals 1.5 hours of core sleep so 4.5 hours core sleep + two 20 minute naps = 7.5 hours of core sleep) or just for a reboot/reset/refresh when needed.

The hardest part of my day is getting up.  So the idea of doing this twice is horrible.  I only nap if I literally can't keep my eyes open, I fight it, because it isn't positive for me to go back to sleep once I'm up and about.
