"The extension of his personal domain from the bureaucracy, where all was tidy and the staff was (or had until lately seemed to be) obedient and loyal, to the rough and tumble of military affairs was proving to be a mixed blessing. ... There was also the prospect, novel and unwelcome, that he might be engaged with enemies who would actually be able to shoot back -- a development which opened all sorts of alarming possibilities."

A few from Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451:

“Books were only one type of receptacle where we stored a lot of things we were afraid we might forget. There is nothing magical in them, at all. The magic is only in what books say, how they stitched the patches of the universe together into one garment for us.”

“Remember, the firemen are rarely necessary. The public itself stopped reading of its own accord.”

"Don't ask for guarantees. And don't look to be saved in any one thing, person, machine, or library. Do your own bit of saving, and if you drown, at least die knowing you were headed for shore.”

We commend ourselves to God and the world as radical beings of value. We stand before the world, in all its majesty and torment, and say, "we mean something" – we, who contribute in some way toward the betterment of the world; we, who have skin in the game; we, who improve matters; we, who care. We find, to our utter astonishment, that we have faith in ourselves. -Nick Cave

“Manifestation is bondage, because it can never be a manifestation of the whole. A little part becomes manifest and that which remains unmanifest becomes restless. This is why our being is pining for liberation, is hankering after freedom, because only a small part is manifest. It is as if the whole body of person is tied down with chains and just a finger is left free. He is moving his finger, he is troubled, he is saying “i want freedom because my whole body is enchained”. – Osho

I survived because the fire inside burned brighter than the fire around me. I fell down that dark chasm, the flame burned on and on. I can always see it in my mind, the warmth and the heat, it will always be a part of me... For many of us the road is a difficult one, but the path is always there for us to follow, no matter how many times we may fall. Stand up and look at what's come for you. This is the waking world in which we live, there is no need to cry, no need to dream. There is much to be sceptical of in this world so it no longer surprises me to learn how many people don't really believe in anything. Too much love of money and ownership, not enough love of...giving. Who am I to deny them?... The light of the mind alone cannot dispel the whole world's darkness. Please think about this, and look in your heart. Naturally, some days are... harder than others. We all go through periods of darkness... but it's good to have friends. The fire that had kept me alive was love, their love... I will never be able to repay the debt I owe them, but I must try... Tomorrow will be here soon enough and there is much to do.

Life is an opportunity, benefit from it. Life is beauty, admire it. Life is a dream, realize it. Life is a challenge, meet it. Life is a duty, complete it. Life is a game, play it. Life is a promise, fulfill it. Life is sorrow, overcome it. Life is a song, sing it. Life is a struggle, accept it. Life is a tragedy, confront it. Life is an adventure, dare it. Life is luck, make it. Life is too precious, do not destroy it. Life is life, fight for it.   Mother Theresa

Lady Whiteadder: Chairs! You have chairs in your House?
Blackadder: Yes, well...
Lady Whiteadder: Wicked Child! Chairs are the work of Beelzebub! At our house Nathaniel sits on a spike!
Blackadder: And yourself?
Lady Whiteadder: I sit on Nathaniel! Two spikes would be an extravagance.
Blackadder: Which reminds me, Auntie...
Lady Whiteadder: Don't call me "Auntie." Aunt is a relative and relatives are evidence of sex.
