Many times, especially in camp or outdoor kitchen situations, I've cleaned up greasy and cooked-on residue on dishes and pots with ashes. For the worst ones I make a paste of wet ash and water and slather that all over and leave it for a while, and then scrub, with a handful of grass if nothing else. I think the ash reacts with the grease to make soap in place, and it also is somewhat abrasive.

While I see where you are coming from, the BB instructions are what they are. To successfully submit for a BB, please treat the required photos in the BB as a checklist. I hope your dog can enjoy the scraps anyway, but keep it clean for the volunteer reviewers!
