This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEA curriculum. Completing this BB is part of getting the sand badge in Gardening.

Even if your situation doesn’t allow you to save seeds from a typical garden, let’s not let that stand in your way. Even if you are getting your fruits and vegetables from a farmers market or grocery, the process is the same. There’s no reason not to build up your experience now so that when you have more land to work with, you’ll already be a well seasoned veteran at saving seeds. One less thing to feel trepidation about later.

To complete this BB, the minimum requirements are:
Collect seeds from at least 3 species.
Prep and finish seeds for saving.
Store safely in labeled containers.

To document and become certified for this BB provide photos or video (less than 2 minutes) showing the following:
- Show the 3 species of plant you are saving the seeds from.
- Show yourself collecting the seeds.
- Show them being prepared for saving.
- Show the fully prepared seeds stored in labeled containers.

I need to think of this:

To document and become certified for this BB provide photos or video (less than 2 minutes) showing the following:
- Show the 3 species of plant you are saving the seeds from.
- Show yourself collecting the seeds.
- Show them being prepared for saving.
- Show the fully prepared seeds stored in labeled containers.

I saved so many seeds, but never made photos ...

Take 2
Seeds are blood orange from grocery store. I didn't know it would have seeds so I didn't take a picture before eating it but it looked like a navel orange with a red blush around the stem.
Locust from my yard (ordered piles are making sure I have "enough" to do the woodland straw BB grow perennials.
Legume is a wild plant I'd like to add to my food forest. It grows about knee high but sprawls for feet. The blossom is bright yellow in clover like clusters. I didn't husk it on purpose because the seeds must be tiny and might explode out of their pods. I think it's the plant called medic but I am confident in calling it legume.
Date for Xmas cookies place pit in mouth to suck all the date goodness off while finishing baking store in envelope.
Okay bought new blood oranges, don't know if these will have seeds to and to the envelope but I do have a prediction I lined them up in order of increasing blush, the one on the right will have much darker red flesh than the one on the left.

Note: Required photos: Show the 3 species of plant you are saving the seeds from. - Show yourself collecting the seeds.  Looks like you're missing a few photos of the fruit or plant and you collecting the seeds. You also have 2 seed photos labeled as locust and none as the legume pods.

Staff note :

I see the legumes in the envelope now. Don't know why it didn't show when I first looked at it.

Collected seeds from a cucumber, zucchini, yellow squash, and mini sweet peppers. The cucumber seeds didn’t extract from the dried/squished version very well, so I skipped saving those ones, but was able to save the other 4

For this BB I saved seed from: a small orange pumpkin (Hokkaido type), a Butternut squash and Runnerbeans (and some more beans).
The pumpkin and squash were bought (organic, local), the beans from my rented allotment garden.

Runner beans (the green ones on the right I prepared for dinner)

All three kinds of seeds in home-made sachets for storage (until I'll use them next gardening season). Written in Dutch.

3 species, all from my own garden:

- Gartenmelde (amaranth related, grown for spinach-like leaves)
- Jalapeños
- Small bush tomatos

The Gartenmelde was left to dry outside before taking the seeds, which come wrapped in pods. The Jalapeños are part of a small landrace experient . I left the tomato seeds in water for a few days, to separate them from the gunk. This only worked half-way, as the seeds still stuck to the kitchen towels in the end. Oh well, I can still use them of course, but I'd like to learn to do this properly.
