Add pockets to a skirt or pants - PEP BB textiles.straw.repair.addpocket

Here is my submission of adding pocket bag to pre-existing besom pocket.

Many RTW pants have back besom pockets for ornamental purpose. They were usually sewn shut without functional pocket bags. I opened them up and add fabrics to make the bags.

Tools needed:
Seem reaper, scissor, sewing machine, overlocker (optional), zipper foot (optional).

Material:
Pocketing fabric
Width= welt/underlay width
Length= 2× pocket depth

Sewing sequences:
1. Remove stitches and serger threads to open pocket. Or trim the edges off if the besom pocket has enough seam allowance.

2. 3.Sew bag to remaining welt. I have to switch to zipper foot because of scant seam allowance and the bulk on one side.

4.5. Finish edges

6.7. Fold the pocket bag and align the sides. Sew them together.

A friend  gave me these flannel pants because she made them too small for the intended recipient. I really don't like not having a pocket, but the pants are only just wide enough through the hips, so the pocket had to go on the outside. I won't be wearing these off property, so I chose a bit of fabric from my scrap cotton bin that was similar in colour. The only tools I used were my sewing scissors, my iron and my sewing machine (I'll add that picture if you want, but they're nothing special.) The new fabric was a bit thin, so I made the pocket two layers of it.

I added a colourful pocket to a pair of harem/fisherman pants. They have one existing pocket but I often find I want more when wearing them - so much so that I usually use a bum bag/fanny pack (snigger).

I used some beautiful, hand-printed Indian fabric that I picked up, along with a suitcase full of other material, in Jaipur a couple of years ago. We've not used any yet and I was surprised that it was me, not my much more fabric-oriented partner, who used it first!

We don't have an electric iron so I used an antique cast iron on our wood burner. It seemed to make the vegetable dyes run a bit so I was sparing with the heat. I then hemmed the top and sides before stitching it onto the trousers. I used a machine for the stitching.

I tried to replicate the style of the existing pocket (albeit in much brighter fabric). I've attached a photo of it for reference.

I need to have my phone on me at all times!   I put this pocket on my skirt.  I hope this helps!
