This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the sand badge in earthworks.

In this video,  from time 2:21 to 5:21, an excavator is used multiple times to scoop up soil for the creation of a swale.
You will be learning how to use an excavator in this BB by scooping up soil three times with an excavator.

Not in PEP.  

Once we have PEP set up and running, I encourage you to set up PEJ or PEW complete with variations.

For others playing along with the "PEP home game"... would a backhoe be an adequate substitute?

It is the same mechanism and technique for the digging, just differing in how it moves around.

For instance, someone might choose to rent a loader/backhoe for their project (or own or borrow one) and knock off the 15 mins. of loader BB and the 3 scoops excavator BB using one machine.

Nails are sold by the pound, that makes sense.

Yes!



That is great because I have a type of backhoe, but with it, I seldom need to rent or hire a backhoe. I think a lot of people are like that, so thank you for being flexible on this!
