And personally... I got through way more outdoor shoes than I do tool handles... so I'm going to say shoes that never wear out.

Also going with shoes, I hate buying new shoes.

I do Celtic, fantasy, folk and shanty singing at Renaissance faires, fantasy festivals, pirate campouts, and other events in OR and WA, USA.

Shoes. If my farming shoes go, it makes every chore I have to do miserable, until I can get them replaced, and finding decent ones can be a challenge. At the same time, replacing a tool handle also means I get to customize that handle to my needs, and it only affects one or two types of chores, in the meantime.

Spend way more on shoes so shoes.  But with the caveat that that they stay comfortable, reasonably decent looking and things like waterproofing continue to work.

Tools handles stand a better chance though.

Country oriented nerd with primary interests in alternate energy in particular solar. Dabble in gardening, trees, cob, soil building and a host of others.

Shoes. I enjoy replacing tool handles. I have not yet substantially repaired my shoes.

Another vote for shoes. I have a VERY hard time finding any shoes that fit, but tool handles are easy to replace or repair.

Gardens in my mind never need water

Shoes, same reason that Pearl gave. I'm a decent tool handle fabricator and a lousy cobbler. Just a set of work or tramping boots that lasts for a decade would be nice. I'm luck to get two years out of a pair.

Shoes! Just-right, or almost-perfect footwear is so hard to find, and there's no guarantee the company will continue making the styles that work for me. Goldilocks shoes are keepers!

Shoes, I keep thinking up ways that I wish the tools were different, to fit how i use them and how they fit me better.

Shoes, I used to ruin my shoes with all the outdoor work and started buying used shoes at garage sales and thrift stores, and now after several years all those shoes need to be replaced and having shoes that never wear out is the way to go…if only.

Shoes, I have the tools and skill to make replacement handles, I am and always will be a woodworker at heart.  

I have no skill as a cobbler, other than duct tape and gorilla glue!

Shoes, forever shoes! My feet are hard to fit, and due to some medical issues I have to be really careful in taking care of them. Finding a pair of shoes that fit correctly and do the job they are intended to do is faaaaaar more difficult (and expensive) than replacing tool handles!
