so I copied and pasted the subject and content of this thread https://permies.com/t/111377/personal-care/purity/clearer-stressed and it came out with no forum

Then did it again, with the subject being "test" and the content being from https://permies.com/t/111377/personal-care/purity/clearer-stressed, and it came out with no forum.

Then I did it with test for both the content and subject, and it came out WITH a forum.

So it seems like it's something in the text/content.

I thought maybe it was question marks, but that didn't pan out. I'm now looking for similarities between the different threads that came up with no forums.

So, it's not just one word, as I've copied my thread and gone paragraphy by paragraph, starting new threads without a paragraph to try to narrow it down to a word or punctuation mark or something. It needed more all three of these paragraphs to work.

So far, every time I post,

"Now that my kids are older, I still find it easier to think and exist outside. Is it because of so many positive experiences outside? Is it because there's no distraction of the internet (we don't have cellphones, so we can and do escape from the draw of technology when outside)?

It doesn't seem to matter whether it's cloudy or rainy or snowy or sunny, I always feel better outside. The beauty of snow makes my brain say "ahhhhhh" at a whole 'nother level, but even on the drizzliest day, I feel happier outside than inside.

Am I the only one like this? Why are our brains like this? How do people in cities cope? I know when I was a city dweller, I always felt pressed down and befuddled, and didn't realize how bad it was until I moved out her and my brain could finally...breath (is that the right word?) again."

It makes the thread-with-no-forum thing happen.

Just in case this might be helpful...
https://permies.com/t/100105/Gear-thread-apparently-closed-locked
It was another case where the reply button was missing and I think to do with a particular staff review forum so maybe not related to this.

Nicole, I'll look forward to your tests...this is almost as bad as the 'what is it' thread, I probably need to stop watching for awhile

Well, my daughter woke up, so I won't be testing again until bedtime. I also don't quite know what else to try to test! I feel like I'm at a bit of a dead-end!

If we could find one broken thread that isn't too important and leave it broken as an example for them (the people that fix stuff) to look at, then I don't see any reason not to fix the other threads manually.

Probably be best to fix them so the forum can keep running smoothly while things happen behind the scenes.

Another data point. This new thread, although appearing under the ur-forum of science and technology in the table summary view, has a blank forum field when I go to it:

https://permies.com/t/111442/Tumeric-medicinal

And the reply/watch buttons are missing. Hope this helps.

This thread is showing as posted in the chicken forum, but doesn't show up in the list (at least on my phone browser).  Also, similar to the thread about lacking reply options I'm seeing that problem too on the linked thread.  I can only find it the "Recent" posts list.

Okay everyone!

I found an example and preserved in aspic or whatever.

All of you with superpowers - PIE, Pollinators and STAFF, please go forth and add forums to any forumless PUBLIC threads.

If you lack the required superpower, please say in this thread "I want to help" and I'll give you a slice of PIE.

Alternatively, please use the report button (that's working, right?) and one of the staff will fix the thread manually.

The forum name and reply button are still missing and yet a staff member was able to reply.  This still seems similar to the time that a forum that was only accessible to staff was causing the reply and quote button to only be visible to staff https://permies.com/t/100105/Gear-thread-apparently-closed-locked
.

I have been playing around with this, and similar to as Nicole mentioned above, there seems to be a minimum text length requirement for new topics to become forumless.

I'm having it with this thread: https://permies.com/t/111638/start-garden

The ones I had the issue with previously seem to be working now.  The one above has the forum showing as blank like the others did.

I must have added it to it's forum after you looked at it. It's ok now.

There have been several today that needed a forum and then, once added, they magically had their 'reply' button.

Apparently it's still a mystery why it is happening

Since you have pie, just use the 'add a forum' option on the upper right and that will fix a topic so you can reply.

If these threads are in the Cider Press, that might be the problem. People have to have enough apples to post in the Cider Press (to prevent trolls from coming on, making an account, and starting flame wars).

We also had an issue a while back where threads were being formed without forums. We thought we'd fixed that one, but maybe it came back.

Examples would be lovely!

I am on my laptop, using Firefox.
"Being ridiculed as a hypocrite for trying to make a small change" is one, which does not seem to be "Cider Press". It's one of several on the front page I click on that does not have an option to reply.

So I just went through all the threads on the front page, and it does seem that I am missing a reply on everything with a slight political bent, so that must be what it is. There seems to be several tags that trigger that, so it might be a good thing to put in your documentation. But that seems to be the issue. Thanks, Kali

Ah, yes, that one (https://permies.com/t/113059/ridiculed-hypocrite-small-change#924691) is in the Cider Press. There's multiple different forums in the Cider Press category.

Here's the link the the Cider Press Catagory: https://permies.com/c/15

Here's the different forums within it. Some need more apples than others. The at the top of each forum page, it lists how many apples are required to post in there.

Ulcer factory: https://permies.com/f/138/
Ethics and Philosophy: https://permies.com/f/143/Ethics
Social Justice: https://permies.com/f/144/Social-Justice
Politics: https://permies.com/f/145/Politics
Religion and Spirituality: https://permies.com/f/146/Religion-Spirituality
Toxic Gick: https://permies.com/f/147/Toxic-Gick
Parenting: https://permies.com/f/235/parenting

basically, these are the topics most people try not to bring up at a family reunion or Christmas Dinner table

And, don't worry, in no time at all you'll have enough apples to post there, too!

Can we reactivate this? I see the same issue on this thread:

or this one:

Any workaround?

No workaround.  It's in the cider press.  People who have enough apples can post in the cider press.  You can earn apples by writing posts that staff and pollinators feel of high quality.  One of the things I did when I was new here and wanted to earn apples, was to look at the Zero Reply list and see if there was anything there that I can answer.  https://permies.com/forums/posts/zeroReplies

Thank R Ranson. I understand the reason for this, even though the nomenclature is so confusing as to push me away (maybe that is the idea?)
Can we at least have a link on the page if the "reply" button is missing - the link can be to your post or something like it.

As someone that reads a lot but rarely replies, it's frustrating to jump through hoops because of trolls.
