Make a Mullein Leaf Poultice - PEP BB medicine.sand.poultice.mullein

Here is my submission for the Natural Medicine Aspect - Sand for Straw - Make a Mullein Leaf Poultice BB.

During the summer events, I harvested Mullein leaves and made a poultice which I applied to my chest to test the efficacy of the poultice.  I enjoyed the texture and soothing lung treatment which helped counter the effects of the smokey air.

Hey Skip team! My kids seem to be feeling under the weather. Maybe it's the transition to fireplace weather? But anyways, I made them mullein poultices. I used a flat-lay out style that one of my books suggests, and I laid a respiratory salve over the leaves. Since mullein is a little prickly on sensitive skin, I thought to blanch the leaves, and the cloths soaked up the infusion water dripping off, which I liked. But the leaves were still a bit intense for their chests. Next time, I would blanch the leaves longer, or perhaps just pulverize dried mullein leave and mix them with the salve to form a thick paste. All that I'm learning as I go is going into my journal. So many ways to apply herbs!

It hurt when I breathed, partly from the smokiness outside and partly from inflammation from a reaction to something else. I made a mullein poultice and laid down to rest while it was on my chest. The pain didn't go away, but it at least stopped getting progressively worse like it had been.

New ID of Mullein

I was pulling grass out of the garden beds and noticed my knuckle was bleeding. A blister had formed and popped and a blade of grass had cut my finger.
Off I went to harvest a Comfrey Mullein and put half a leaf in my mouth to masticate, didn't taste bad but didn't like the texture.  Spit it out on my booboo, added a few drops of my homemade Fire Cider, and wrapped my finger with the rest of the leaf.  Tied with cotton string for gardening and left it on until morning.

The comfrey Mullein paste went on green, fire cider was almost clear, but just look at that stain!  3 days later, with handwashing and showers, the stain is still vibrant.

Finger healed just fine. I've dried more for storage.

I harvested the mullein and air dried it over the summer. I then ground the dried leaves and reconstituted it with just enough hot water to create a paste. I applied the paste on a gauze pad and bandaged it on a bruise.
