Hey Candyland?
Sorry to be the late arrival, I see this thread started a week ago, well past candy delivery. I guess I am lucky I was only able to help at the 5 dollar level, being out on the road I missed the Candy delivery window. Oh well.

We didn't actually send out the emails until Friday afternoon. You have a few hours left to download stuff.

I have downloaded all the candy and almost everything that has been made available to me. ($150 donation lvl)

I am watching the second download from "World Domination Gardening 3-DVD set" titled 'hugelkultur'. I use BS player and it shows me a movie length of 02:22:02 but at 01:24:45 the video stops. and it just sits there with the timer ticking away towards the end of the 2hr 22 min with nothing. It's as if the last half of the video file was recorded as a picture.

How long is the hugelkultur video supposed to be?

It took soo long to download that I'd rather not just sit here trying to re-download it over and over without knowing if that may help first.

Thank you for all you do.

Skip, it sounds like your question is about a digital download from scubbly, right? Would you please be so kind as to repost that question to this thread: https://permies.com/t/45832/tnk/support-thread-digital-download-existing

I think you will even find the exact file sizes posted there so you can make sure you got the whole file.

It sounds like the 72 hour window will close in about half an hour.

This affects the zip files and pdf files. This does not affect the youtube links, the digital downloads or the streaming at vimeo.

First off, I want to say that I adore you all, and I do not demand perfection…few sentient beings do more than your group to all out save our species, other species, and the planet…and I have rarely seen, perhaps never seen, such a generous kickstarter campaign on such a valuable project and I am delighted to support this and now I GET IT to immediately open every single email from Cassie and you folks, and will diligently do so forever starting now,

AND (not but) ….. I got it all downloaded by the GRACE of unknown forces about 10 minutes before the 72 hour window was over, and love my fast computer even more. I will spare you the details.

So I am ALL IN FAVOR of whatever makes it so such drama does nor recur, AND I see what I HAVE IT IN MY POWER TO DO to make sure it does not recur. AND I thank my guardian angels and all the benficent forces in the Universe, which of course obviously watch over beneficent activities such as ours.

I ask that they watch over you and all of us as you complete the work on this most noble project.

Lots of Love,
Pamela Melcher

The 72 hour window is now closed.

While everything seems to have worked out pretty normal, there was one exception: the permaculture playing cards ebook was downloaded over 210,000 times. So, I guess somebody shared that link with about 208,000 people. Not cool.

I would like to thank Cassie for rolling with the punches on getting this done. I would also like to thank all the people the encountered a bump in the road and handled it gracefully.

OMG…disaster…I hope you can help….it was my mistake but oh how I wish there is a way to help me As I said in my message sent at 12:19 above today, I did what I thought would download all the candy by noon today and I THOUGHT I had…

then out of curiosity to see if you had allowed a grace period for the folks who were unable to do it in 72 hours, I tried to download them again at about 12:30 and at that ttime I noticed that in my haste to download the materials, and because I am a relative tech newbie, I noticed that on my Mac I had attempted to download all the materials into "Pictures," something that I rarely use and forgot that I had on…I usually download to Downloads…and the machine did not warn me that what I was attempting to download would not in fact download into Pictures….it appeared to be downloading

so I lost almost all of it…………………………….infinite anguish…………………………………………………………………………………………

I HOPE there is some way I can still download it……..I donated at I think the $60 level..the one where I could download the dvd's when they come out. oh tears….copious tears

We want so much to put in a rocket mass heater in the house and greenhouse. And we are newbies at that….we have a woodstove and we also have gas heat and I anguish over fracking… This is a tragedy for me if I lost those downloads…

And ALL I WANT TO DO at this point with my life is permaculture and hugelbeds and all the stuff that will save our skins as a species and planet and I was SO EXCITED about all the podcasts, etc., in the kickstarter……I am in tears…... I almost went nuts during Easter dinner with folks talking about trivia, or was so sad hearing about all their surgeries that they would not need if they ate better…so sad...…I just smiled and looked out at the trees and breathed and thought, "soon I will be home working on our permaculture food forest. Some folks get what I am doing…be patient……."

Oh. no, I am starting to cry hysterically….I so do want out of the insanity of our world rushing to fall off a cliff. I hope there is some way I can still download what I missed. My email is pamelamelcher@gmail.com

I love you no matter what and will not be rude, but I hope there is a win win solution here…tears…………gotta go or I will ruin my computer with my tears…

Pamela

Glimmers of hope….it appears that the materials may have been successfully downloaded into Pictures.

Happy to say that it is not as bad as it seemed.

After extensive delving into this, it appears that I did successfully download all but Podcast Gob 201-240 and Podcast Gob 241-280. I have accessed all the other items in the candy list successfully.

Thankfully Apple accommodates tech newbies like me by making it possibe for us to download audios in "Pictures." I am glad they can handle people like me.

When I tried to access the Podcast Gob 201-240, an icon apeared that included a progress bar in which the blue line did not go all the way over to the right….when I clicked on that icon, nothing happened….a similar thing occurred when I tried to access Podcast Gob 241-280, with the difference that the progress bar was a different length…so I think what I did was not allow a enough time for those downloads to take place. It only would have been a few seconds more and they would have been finished. I was not paying attention.

So the only ones of the kickstarter candy that I am in fact missing is Podcast Gob 201-240 and Podcast Gob 241-280.

Thank you for all the candy! I downloaded all of them on Friday. Yesterday, I noticed that most of them were not the full file, so I downloaded the zip files again. Pretty much every file works now, except the Playing Cards ebook. I try to open it and it says an error occurred. I am thankful to have grabbed everything else in time and sorry I missed out on the playing cards file. I had no idea the download got disconnected.

Hia All,

I fall under the 'Tuesday' candy group.

Please advise on the following -
1) I received 2 e-mails from Scubbly on Sunday (1x Older Rocket DVD's & 1x World Domination DVD's), both in my junk folder. Were they meant to be sent out on Sunday given that I'm part of the Tuesday group?
2) The files download fine, but I noticed their file sizes do not correspond with what is listed on Scubbly (most are much smaller). To be safe I'm downloading them again, but I notice the file sizes differ every time I download yet it shows the download completed successfully. Anyone else noticed this?
3) When opening the MP4's, it plays fine. When I try to forward (to see if it's complete), it bombs out. Tried using 3 different players and 2 different laptops with the same results. Anyone else have this problem?
4) When can we expect the e-mail on the rest of the Tuesday candy?

Cheers,

Ed.

Edward,

I see you posted this twice. I covered some of this in the other thread, which is probably the best spot for it, but I think this is the right thread for #4, so I'll post again here:

Sometime tuesday, which is today.

Just to be clear, before the friday mailing, you emailed cassie and asked to be on the tuesday mailing instead, right? If that is the case, then I'm guessing that you will get an email sometime today.

So I was able to get everything except the playing cards. It wasn't an actual download, it just loaded the pdf, and the pdf never loaded for me to be able to download it. Yes I live on the side of a mountain in South America. Any possibility of me being able to access the playing cards again? I read most of them as I waited hours for it to load, but it never completely did. Maybe someone could put it in a zip for me and I could download it the normal way? Thanks for the consideration.

Alex,

I'm open to trying again, but I think you should get a download manager - especially if your internet connection is a bit iffy.

Over in the support thread for the massive digital download files, Ian was suggesting browser plugins to do the download management stuff. Of course, they depend on your browser and OS and stuff.

Thank you, Paul. I will be getting another chance today, and will act on that opportunity with speed. I explained the tech details in case it helped another person or shed light on this. I played a role in getting into the mess I got into. Apologies for not acting fast on this as I was duly warned to do. Thank you for this awesome project. Looking forward to learning a lot. Wishing you and your peeps all the best.

Theresa,

I just looked up your pledge and the only other candy you have coming would be in october. If you have an email that said anything else, could you please forward it to me? paul at richsoil.com

I have just read the email that the early candy process has finished. I had requested to be in the second group, but I don't know what happened. I did get an email from Cassie to confirm my email, but not get an announcement from a rich soil address that it was ready for down load.

If it's all done, then there is nothing to be done about it, and no harm done or hard feelings. I would have liked the plans for the stoves, but we all know that everyone does not always get what they want.

I did not read this whole thread, so I don't know if this was addressed. A few posts back looked like some folks had expressed some negativity, and others were telling them to calm down and remember their manners.

I'd like to know what happened to get me excluded, but if there are too many people with too many issues and questions to even begin, then never mind. I'll just figure we are to the "play nice" part.

Though motivated by generosity, possibly such an ambitious giveaway in a short period of time was a learning experience, not that good an idea.

Thanks anyway

Thekla

I am in the same situation as Thekla. I had a conversation with cassie@richsoil.com about a second window but did not hear from her since.

Hope you had a great holiday, that all this traffic did not wear out your enthusiasm and that you will still have the energy and the patience to set up that second window.

Thank you

The second group is an exception to the main party. I thought there would be five or six people, so it would take a little bit of work to process them manually, but it turned out to be closer to 60 or so. So cassie has a lot of work ahead of her.

Cassie should start on the second group sometime today. In other words, your candy will arrive sometime today.

The second window will be set up for about 60 people today. Cassie will be handling all those manually, so it will taker her a LOT of time.

Hi, I'm one of those people who did not get the directions from rich soil for the downloads and other goodies distributed this past weekend. I did get the kick starter update #7 and again this morning kick starter update #8, but no email from richsoil giving me directions to the downloads. I did email Cassie yesterday and have not gotten a reply. Although it may be too late at this point, I would appreciate any feedback. It would've been nice to have gotten the greenhouse stove plans as well as the other small stove plans, the YouTube videos, etc. I guess at this point the most important is the information for the inner circle when the distribution is announced next fall. Any help with this would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Nancy Peirce

Since I started the downloads all on Friday when the email went out, my guess is that the server was bogged down with many requests at once. I normally have a very good connection. My browser gave no indication that the download was interrupted; it acted like it was complete. I only happened to check the zip files on Sunday night and that's when I realized my downloads must have been cut off. I redownloaded those files, and failed to check the playing cards file before Monday. When I got the email about the other candy (downloading the previous DVDs), that's when I saw the link about using a download manager. I tried the link provided for a download manager for Chrome, but that link went nowhere and I haven't yet installed a different one.
