My email's just arrived! Woohoo, download-fest!

Mine arrived a couple minutes ago, and I have begun downloading. I am in the $60 group.

I just sent out the emails to ALL of the levels.

I'm gonna go eat something now.. Hahah brain dead.

Arg, the errors have begun. The vegetable sound system zip AND the rocket mass gob both finished corrupted and unable to be opened.

Don't re-download! Try this first:

1. Go to and download http://www.diskinternals.com/zip-repair/ (it's free!)
2. Install and run the tool on the affected file
3. Enjoy!

I am not affiliated with this company / tool, but I thought there's got to be a better way then redownloading 10 times. I've used other disk internals products with good success. There should be no spyware / adware / cr*pware in the tool.


There WILL MOST LIKELY still be a broken file in the archive (for me it was a pdf in the vegetable sound system file), but at least you can open the archive, and unzip it to see if you need or care about that file!

I got mine for the $60 level a couple of hours ago.

Most of these are on the 24 hr. deadline. Are the YouTube's for Hugelkultur and Fire Science on the 72 hr. deadline or will they remain available?

First, it's not a 24 hour deadline. It's a 72 hour window. And the 72 hours does not apply to the youtube videos. Those are available to you forever-ish.

We have had zip files and mp4 files in the past that a lot of people had trouble with. I wonder if this is something that we should run on all of our zip files before posting them.

Just found my email ($60 level) in the junk folder - geez, thought I had all the permies email addresses cleared as safe! Will begin the downloading festival tonight. Must pace myself. Too much candy all at once could leave me in a sugar coma!!!

This is the first time I participated in a kickstarter type campaign. I am usually too broke and the "Candy" doesn't seem worth it.

This has been a fantastic First for me, I pitched in $15 and I simply cannot believe how much I have received.

Also, Love listening to the podcasts and the German Lessons are great, what a refreshing method to learn a new language.

Hey guys, having problems downloading the podcasts,music, and ebook. Got the RMH plans fine. Will try again in the early am? Seemed to work better last time, thanks for all the work- you guys rock!

So far no problems with the downloads. Music is great, all the pdfs work and the podcast bundle I downloaded sounds good. Have more to go, but closing down the internet for tonight. Thanks again for all your hard work, Cassie, and the delicious candy!

So far the PDF's are a breeze to download, save and run, and they all look soo beautiful I just need to thank you. But, is it supposed to take hours and hours to download the .zip files? They are so small I thought it would be instant. I have cable internet so my internet speed shouldn't be a problem ever. It has literally taken 30 minutes to download 283MB.

Addendum, It is only the "Rocket-mass-heater-podcast-gob.zip" that is going soo slow. I got everything else instantly.

Had several issues with extracting .zip files after using the diskinternals zip file repair utility. Damaged, corrupt, missing, some extract properly, others just parts & pieces.
On another note, have the old DVD's been let out yet as I haven't received any email referencing that yet.

I highly doubt that it would help, since repeated downloading attempts does seem to eventually fix the file. If the source was corrupt, that couldn't happen. I'm no expert on it, but to me it seems like the files are being corrupted on route, or being corrupted on send by the file server when under heavy load.

Imo A fairly cheap hosting alternative would be to use something like amazon s3 for the peak give away times.

Yeah it can be hit and miss based on how mucked up the file gets on the way over.

Wow! This feels like I won the lottery!! THANK YOU! Everything downloaded perfectly except for the Rocket Mass Heater podcast gob - BUT I tried to download too much at once I think, because when I calmed the heck down and downloaded it again later on its own it was perfectly fine! Seriously...this is like winning the lottery! WOW.

I am so happy to read that the videos on youtube are forever-ish too. I didn't realize that. This means that I can hook my laptop to the tv and watch them with my 96 year old (healthy,fit and still brilliant) father at our leisure!

We did the SIC stuff for the kickstarter a year ago. A lot of people did not follow the directions so jocelyn ended up putting a lot of work in to get those people connected to the SIC forum. I'm going to suggest that Jocelyn do it sometime next week. But if Jocelyn is feeling generous, I suppose she might do it earlier and again later.

Thanks. I misinterpreted the OP in that I figured the distribution of the candy would be done *via* the SIC forum. Hence my confusion.

I received the candy-mail yesterday and was able to download all the Good Stuff.

Just finished downloading and checking all the bits of candy at the $70 level - all are good and work just peachy.

Woot! Successful download of all candy! No problems at all. Maybe helped that I did them one at a time in the middle of the night, when there is probably less traffic. Thank you!

Still can't get anything but the PDF files of the RMH's, help? I'm on my iPad anyone have success downloading onto theirs?

I am having a problem with the compressed files.

I have downloaded three of the compressed files.

rocket-mass-heater-podcast-gob.zip 195,318 KB in size
wheaton-permaculture-odcast-gob-201-240.zip 287,427 in size
formidable-vegetable-sound-system.zip which was 30,227KB in size

When I try to open them I get the message "Windows cannot open the folder rocket-mass=heater-podcast-gob.zip is invalid" I get the same message for all three.

Can someone help me with this problem.

[EDITED] - Never mind. There must have been something wrong with my internet connection yesterday and it looks like it didn't download the entire file. Each one took a couple hours. I tried again this morning
the download took minutes for each file and they opened fine.

The "learn german-ish" stuff! Wow, that was a while back. I'm glad they were of some value. I had to go take a look ... there are five podcasts and it looks like they have each been downloaded about 3000 times. Not too bad.

Tell us the exact file size you have (in bytes) for each file that is wonky.

Yup. Once you have a vimeo account set up, send your account number to cassie and she will connect you to the streaming version.

I never got mine. Maybe it was in my junk folder and I accidentally deleted it?

Smooth as silk, pdf fine and accessible once downloaded - would say it's fixed - running lubunt 14 + chrome41

It took a few attempts (really slow and iffy Internet connection last night) but I've now got it all this morning except the ebook. Tried three times with it, and it seems to download the correct file size, but the off reader says the files damaged and can't be repaired. Everything else looks fab - already watched the linked videos and waiting eagerly for the dvd links. Many thanks for all this extra stuff, I'm loving it! It must have created tons (or tonnes if you did it in metric) of extra work so it's much appreciated.
