I backed the project and lined up a friend's son for welding. As soon as the video available, I will be building one.
Thanks for this.

Statistically, the giving today is the same as day 2 with fewer pledges - that rocks. Here's hoping the trend keeps rolling for the next 36+ hours!

Now i had to upgrade to gloryglory to get the plans. The reason I did not do this anyway is the shipping fee. For me it is much more convenient to just download the files. 25 bucks just for shipping seems a lot. And it is not even furthering the cause. So I am asking Paul: Can you just keep the DVDs? So you can keep a bit more money and i don't have to pay shipping. Of course, if this is a Kickstarter thing or really complicatetd or bothersome for you, please ignore this request.

Same over here, I don't need a physical copy. Can that be arranged?

When you get the $40 level, or higher, you will have the option to say that you don't want the physical DVD.

I'm in the same boat as Philipp, and noticed that we'll be charged $65 for the gloryglory($40) pledge.

If we choose to not receive the DVD, will we be refunded the extra $25 later on? I'm not sure how Kickstarter works internally with it's options, and I've never seen a partial refund one done before, so just thought I'd clarify.

---

Great project, I'm glad to see it's been such a success. I'm looking forward to building a Rocket Oven this fall :)

Gurk.

Well, you must be living outside the united states - because the charge is for $25 instead of $5.

Kickstarter definitely doesn't fiddle with that sort of thing, so it is entirely on me.

The next thing is that there are several people involved in the project that get a percentage:  so kickstarter takes 10% off the top.  And then there is the 20% kickback program.  And several others.  So you pay in $25 for shipping, but let's say that I only get $15.

Maybe the thing to do is to make it up to you with the permies.com pie program?   How about in the case of the $25 shipping that where it asks for you address if you put "pie" and then I give you a full pie ($30 value)?

Yeah, I figured it'd be a bit of a complicated dealio with so many elements involved. No problem!

I'd be cool with 12 slices of Pie as a trade-off :)

Hopefully some other people upgrade aswell and we reach the wofati doc stretch goal!

We have our first associate producer!

I asked if I could toss her name about a bit and she said:

Go forth and toss!

Wait, that didn't sound quite right....sure, go right on ahead.

So the opening and closing credits for the DVD will show:

My previous kickstarter had a HUGE bump from Steven Harris.   This time it sounded like he was drowning in other projects ....   and then a moment ago, this email arrived ...   it looks like it is sent to all his peeps:

Hi, This is Steven Harris, my good friend Paul Wheaton is finishing his kick starter in less than 24 hours (Time is Ticking) and he's got a TON of stuff for people who even put in one buck.  People who put in 5 or 15 bucks get even more.  You have to read the list to believe it.  Paul is REALLY about education of YOU.  You support Him, He Educates YOU.

Below is the email from Paul, if you are interested in OFF GRID COOKING of ANY type, please look at his cook starter before 3PM Thurssday because then its OVER.  Pauls details below.  Steve

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/paulwheaton/rocket-ovens-feature-length-documentary?ref=36awgd

----------------------------------

From Paul: Other kickstarters offer "thanks" or "warm thoughts" for contributions of $1 or $5. I offer a list of REAL things for just a dollar, and several more things for $5.

Other kickstarters featuring a feature length film offer it for $40. We are offering it for $15. And with that $15 you get three other feature length films, plus hours of other commercial video stuff and several ebooks.

Today, with just a few hours left, I wish to point out that at the $150 level, you get all those goodies, plus a pretty hefty pile of additional goodies:

- All 100 hours of video from our Permaculture Design Course
- All 77 hours of video from our Appropriate Technology Course
- Our 8-DVD set "Better Wood Heat: DIY Rocket Mass Heaters"
- The Rocket Ovens DVD as a physical DVD
- a ticket to the permaculture bootcamp program at Wheaton Labs

Not only does it help to put permaculture and appropriate technology on the map, plus load you up with heaps of goodies, and fill my pockets with coin for future projects, BUT it helps inspire other folks that wish to make a go of it down this road.

Please help me change the world for the better by supporting my kickstarter.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/paulwheaton/rocket-ovens-feature-length-documentary?ref=36awgd

Steven's peeps brought in $10,000 to the last kickstarter.  And I suspect that Steven's empire is even bigger now.

....   I have a lot of feels.    At first I was worried that this would get funded at all and it was funded in 18 hours.   And then I was thinking that since this is a single DVD project and not a 4-dvd project, we will probably collect just a quarter of what we got in previous kickstarters ...    And then we set up some stretch goals and I was feeling it was a bit arrogant to put out three.  ...   So this is amazing that we are on the edge of $60,000 and now this whole new bump from Steven!

So I just wanna give a big shout out to my buddy steven:

http://steven1234.com

Steven is the guy behind the emergency home battery bank stuff, and the stuff where you turn your pickup into a generator

Maybe people can give me ideas on how to promote Steven's battery bank stuff?   Here's the link.

Paul, how’s this one rank in total $$’s compared to other kickstarters you’ve done?  The funded % has got to be one of your higher ones...

This is a kickstarter.   The idea is that we make an offer.   In the case of $1 pledges, we are able to offer to much for so cheap because we can process thousands of these things all at once.

Over a 30 period, people "pledge" different amounts.  If there are enough pledges at the end of 30 days, then everybody's card gets dinged.   About 14 days later the funds are sent to me and then I start handing out the goodies.   Some goodies I will hand out the first week.   And some will require me to send dvds to the printer, wait for them to come back, and then mail them to thousands of people.

All of the stuff at the $1 level will probably be fully sent out within two months.  Most of it - the stuff that is already done, will probably be all sent out within the first two weeks.

My all time highest was $105,107 pledged  and 2,022 backers.  That was for the "better wood heat" 4-dvd set.

Can you please explain what exactly one gets with a full pie? I'm also outside the US and selected a lower level funding to avoid paying $25 shipping for a DVD.

all the stuff about pie:  https://permies.com/wiki/pie

You get access to more free stuff, plus vendor discounts, plus superpowers on permies.   Also, if you see somebody has writtend a really great post (maybe answered a question for you) you can give them a piece of your pie.

One of the coolest things (I think) is that you can give two thumbs up and you also get a thumbs down button.

Each piece of pie lasts 30 days.   Although I think that if you give somebody your last piece of pie on day 29, rather than receiving a piece of pie with just one day on it, they get a full 30 days.

Thanks for the quick reply. I've checked out the details and I am sure these are great bonuses for people who spend enough time online to take advantage of them (the superpowers on Permies.com) or who have not already bought the videos offered with a discount.

Unfortunately, I am in the process of reducing my online time so I spend more time working on the homestead and have many of the offered videos already so pie is not so attractive to me.
