I listened to some of the recent podcasts with Elliot and the ads sound good (but that might be my personal bias ha!)!

Here's the text for the attached audio file, if you have any suggested changes let me know and I can update it, it takes just a minute:

Have you ever wondered whether a particular book was really good, or just so-so, and if you could trust the reviews online? When it comes to books related to permaculture, Permies has a large list of reviews for over 100 books. Perhaps you're considering a book for yourself or a friend, or you're just curious about what's out there - stop by Permies.com and take a look at the book review grid and read some honest reviews, and hopefully you'll find the next book to add to your collection!

And since I had this Star Wars fight on the brain, why not make a food forest version?

"Feed yourself with chem-ag, it is the only way you can grow your food...
yes... your thoughts betray you! Your feelings for gardening are strong, especially for... food forests! So! You have a food forest! Your feelings have now betrayed that too. You were wise to guerilla garden. Now your failure is complete!  If you will not feed from Monsanto, then perhaps I'll spray your food!"

For me the music overpowered the ad and I was having a hard time hearing what Joshua was saying.

Yeah, the levels got re-adjusted after I monkeyed with it, I listened to the thing I'd uploaded and it's not the same as what I had at some point in the process.  I tried to fix it but I don't seem to be able without some slightly fancier software.

*If anyone can mix two mp3/sound files together and can adjust the levels (volume) of each together then you can make it work.*  The music should be much, much quieter so you can actually hear the music.

For me, it's a bit abrupt to have the ad starting in the middle of a podcast, with no warning; a little music intro would cue that an ad is starting and help with this.  Not a big deal, but if it's easy, well, you got the music and you're welcome to use it.

Would need another actor to do these.

(start music)
Neighbor 1: Hey, dumbfuck, how do you know that food forest you're planting there isn't just going to die and blow away in the wind? Maybe you should read a book first.
Neighbor 2: I've actually read 8 of them, I'm good.
Neighbor 1: OK, but what if those books were written by dumbfucks who've never actually grown anything in their lives?
Neighbor 2: It's cool, I read the reviews on permies.com/book hyphen reviews.
Neighbor 1: Huh. (click click click).  Wow.  This is pretty cool.
Neighbor 2 (announcey voice): Permies.com/book hyphen reviews. Again, that's permies.com/book-reviews.  (end music)
Neighbor 1: But what if the reviewers are dumbfucks?

Ad #2
Neighbor 2: Look here, after I've grown my food forest for five years, I'm going on permies.com/book-reivews and writing another review of each of those books so people will know what worked here and what didn't.  And that will save people *years*.  So instead of being a dumbfuck yourself, why don't you do a permaculture project and write _your_ review on permies.com/book hyphen reivews to help the next person?
Neighbor 1: Why that's a good idea, neighbor, I realize now I was just being a dumbfuck.
(announcey voice) Don't be a dumfuck, go to permies.com/book-reivews.  That address is permies.com/book hyhen reivews.
Neighbor 3: How do you spell dumbfuck?
Neighbors 1 and 2 (fading out): DUM--

* note this ad does not constitute universal endorsement of the word "dumbf*ck" in the project of winning hearts and minds over to the permaculture cause *

Since nobody chimed in I've recorded the following and attached it:

One of the perks of the Permies daily-ish newsletter is a long list of freebies which have been given away. Every once in a while, the newsletter has a link to a new freebie that you can claim, with no strings attached! And that's just the icing on a tasty Permies cake, as each newsletter includes links to various topics being discussed on the forums.  If you'd like to check out the list and sign up for the newsletter so you can join in on the goodies, go to permies.com/freebies

I think that for an audio ad it would be better to say permies.com/tour --  which works if you type it in.

Some may perceive this has politics in it, but you can redact a few words.  also i can't for the life of me get my computer to let me edit the file anymore, I had a way of doing it before but the long pauses just need to get edited out and it's good to go.  I suggest "redacting" with a long mysterious beep sound for comic effect.

The truth is out there.

Gossip 1: What’s really going on at Wheaton Labs?
2: I hear they do experiments on alien fetuses.
3: I heard that Marjorie Taylor Green’s Reptilian Overlords have invented a new microwaveable Lunchable.
4: You’re all morons, that lab was closed down years ago.
Permie: Actually, you can go on a tour of the lab—permies.com/tour.
1,2,3,4: Really??
Permie: Yes, the truth will blow your minds.
1,2,3,4: Whoa.
4: I was right!  I knew it!  Alien overlords!
Permies.com/tour

Hi Paul!
We watched the Tour about 6 times!!  The movie is great.   All so beautiful, and a joy to see you there in summer!

I would like to make an audio ad.
Could I use excerpts from the movie?
Where can I find the URL so I can download it?
Thanks!

I did start a bit of a poor man's poll to see if we should do the work to put that together:

You are a weird dood.

The end got clipped a little.  You gotta leave about a second of blank at the end.

Your first mention of "permies.com/tour" leaves out the "slash".

One more time?

You said "backslash" instead of "slash"

There might have been one or two other stumbles.  This is hard isn't it?!

here it is.  I acknowledge it doesn't do justice to the actual cool stuff you could see at the lab, but it was just an intuition and I went with it.

Have the ads actually increased traffic to those particular things advertised so far?

Hi Paul,
Yes, I can change it.
You want him to say "World Domination Gardening Movie"  ?

I can edit the voice track and add music and effects to other peoples ads.  It will sound best if they can send me the original wav file.    I can do it with an MP3 file but will not sound as good.
