This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum. Completing this BB is part of getting the sand badge in Rocket.

This BB requires you to start and operate a rocket oven. You are not required to build your own rocket oven but you will need access to one.

Some threads on Rocket Ovens:
  - What is a Rocket Oven?
  - Beautiful Rocket Oven
  - Podcast 400 on Rocket Oven
  - What Would You Cook in a Rocket Oven

How a Rocket Oven Works

Rocket Oven Fuel and Baking Goodies

 - food must be cooked in a chamber (oven)
 - exhaust gasses don't contact the food
 - food is clearly cooked
 - food is not burnt
 - as in the Food Prep and Preservation aspect, no aluminum or teflon/coated cookware or plastic touching the food (including bowls and utensils) is allowed

To get certified for this Badge Bit you must:
  - post 5 pictures
o pic of starting materials before fire
       o pic of fire started
o pic of additional wood added
o pic of uncooked food going in
o pic of cooked food coming out

This was during the PEP event on the first Saturday. We had a pizza party and it was a good time. Perfect timing to break in the rocket oven for the year. Not sure if I'll get the BB because I don't have the pic of the starting materials, but I'll let you be the judge. If not I'm sure I'll get another chance soon.

This is during the ATC- on the 4th of July, I made corn! Then I toasted some hot dog buns because it was still warm in there.

One photo didn't come through, plus I should say the corn took around 30 or 45 minutes, and I still had a little wood left at the end.

These are my starting materials that I used to start the fire in the rocket oven.

These are my starting materials in the rocket oven before I started the fire.

These are my starting materials in the rocket oven after I started the fire.

This is an additional load of wood I added into the fire.

These are uncooked baked apples and pears (that I stuffed with dates and pumpkin seeds and topped with shredded coconut and sunflower seeds) going in!

Hello there!
While at the 2019 PEP Jamboree, I cooked with the rocket oven.

Good thing I'd already planned to do this BB early that morning, as the power went out and the oven wound up being the only means for hot food.

I made what I call a "Dutch Pancake," and I've variously heard called a "Dutch Popover," or "Dutch Baby."

Running the fire, making breakfast, outside in the pre dawn, with snow falling around, is quite the memory. It's hard to describe just how lovely that was.

Thank you! I have been meaning to do a write-up on it but haven't gotten around to it. Maybe this weekend I can buckle down and get it typed up. Stay tuned!

That is a cool rocket.  I'm thinking it's more of a rocket grill than a rocket oven?  I updated the requirements a bit to reflect some of the key characteristics of a rocket oven.  For future submissions...
