1 tb dried diced garlic

Bring to a boil, cover, reduce heat and simmer 40 minutes.

Edit: autocorrect wrecked that sentence. Corrected.

2 1/2 cups brown rice, soaked overnight. Put in 2 litre pot with enough water to cover by around an inch. Brought to boil, then simmered for around half an hour, until the water was absorbed. Left to rest on the side of the woodstove until the stir fry BB I did was ready.

I grew up on a rice farm in LA and we are sort of snobbish about how to cook rice.  As in , "bless your heart, you don't know how to cook rice" if you do it differently than the person you are talking to.  😁. Yet, everyone does it differently and it all comes out very similarly.  Here's my family's version.  Pour rice into the pot and rinse it.  Fill it over the rice to the first line in your forefinger when your finger is resting on top of the rice. Add about a T of vinegar and some salt.  Bring to a boil, then put the lid on it and lower the fire to low.  (But don't tell our neighbor because they would think that this was the craziest way to cook rice ever.  😂

Starting with my favorite rice:

2 cups dry rice plus 4 cups water:

Cover, bring to boil, turn heat down to low then simmer while cooking rest of meal. Peek in a see if it looks done, if so replace cover and turn off burner.  Let it sit there until ready to serve.

So I normally rinse the starch from rice I plan to use in many dishes, but today was stirfry and the extra starch is useful in that.
