Greetings Inge, these were planted several weeks ago and are an attempt to see what herbs can be grown indoors during the winters here.  With the limited sunlight/frequent cloudy days, it was a challenge to get these drowsy plants to look half way happy.  If it were just me, I might arrange some PV sensors with grow lights and this would supplement the natural sun hours to the need of the plants.  

We go thru a significant amount of cilantro on taco Tuesdays and I think several of us boots would like to find low input and clever ways to grow our own fresh herbs, all year long.

We haven't started our seedlings for the hugels yet but I bet we're close to the window.  Good luck!

A typical Sunday, cleaning up the past weeks clutter and chaos with blitz cleaning.  Then there's the standard dose of extra grazing in the kitchen and mulling about.  The only thing that stands out to me is a nest project I don't quite know how to feel about.  Here's a few pics of this random tangent or curious creation.  It's either the most interesting thing or the easiest to capture and describe with pictures, of the day.

Pulley day arrived and I started the day with a design for a straight forward drying rack and realized I wanted to try something a little more challenging..  Even as rushed as this ended up being, it turned out to be a little more grindy than I thought it would be.  A working concept from the imagination into reality is a win regardless of loose tolerances and there were moments of satisfying carpentry bits here and there -amid the many many marks and measurements.  

Unfortunately/fortunately, depending on how one looks at it, the pulley end of the project is for another day.  Until then, I can only dream about the mysteries of mechanical advantage.

Not being prepared for my sudden need to change the plans, round wood or junk pole wasn't reasonable to source. So I improvised with some of our milled bits, still quite green.
Two round wood pieces 3' long and 6 rubbery green dimensional bits, a couple with some significant bend, 11/8 x 4'.

I used the band saw to make the long cuts and the Jr Japanese hand saw to make the most satisfying cut of the job, down to the tail.

Making the perpendicular cuts on the band saw reminded me of learning how to cut my own hair.. Grasping for reference points. A hand saw was user as well.

Plenty of shaving with the Shinto rasp and other busy work until it fit, at least close enough to pound together.

Instead of scrapping the bow rungs I turned them up for a little added spring strength and out the two recurve bits on the outside.
