- PEP is comprised of Badges. Each Badge is comprised of Badge Bits, or "BB" for short.

Be sure to look ahead, too.

For me, this means acquire the tools/materials for Thursday's BB's sooner rather than later.

For Thursday's stuff, green/fresh wood is dramatically easier to carve that dry/hard wood.  So don't cut your branch any earlier than Thursday morning if at all possible.

Probably 80% of the food I cook probably qualifies as a stir-fry. I stir it,and I fry it! :D

What is BB? I'm still learning your lingo. Most of the tasks are the way I live anyway nut the carve a sppon. I picked up a spoon and fork combo one end fork and the other end spoon and compact. I should make one of those.

A BB is a Badge Bit.  So if you do enough Badge Bits, you'd qualify for a badge.

We get to do the Ruth Stout composting... while it's puking snow!





Scraps where collected from my family. Wood shavings are used chicken coop bedding. I'm trying to get this area prepped for sunchokes this Summer!

Nice! I'm still only half-way through my composting.

So for today, while I'm collecting kitchen scraps, I'm submitting all the Sand Rocket BB's that I got at the PEP Jamboree that I haven't submitted yet (I did everything for the badge, I just need to actually submit it!)

I also placed my order for tubes and bees from Crown Bees, I'm excited for them to arrive!

Knives out! It was knife sharpening for me today.

And continuing to collect kitchen scraps, and collecting free fertilizer, and do the mailbox dance next to my last rocket BB so I can get my first badge.

But that's all. I had to work today, too...

I did mine too!  Actually a week ago but I just submitted it today!  And I boiled maple syrup all day making a bit over 2 gallons of syrup.  Need to check the Straw level BB for that over in the foraging badge...

Woohoo! My first badge! (Rocket) Now just fifteen more to go.

Also, I finished carving my spoon. This was wood from the trunk of our Christmas tree this year.

I had to take several breaks from the project, and I kept it submerged in water to keep the wood moist. Doing that also wound up removing quite a lot of oil/sap from the wood, now it doesn't taste like I'm eating Christmas trees when I test it.

Is there somewhere specific I have to post the pictures of each badge bit  to get paul approved?
Where can I read about all of the requirements?

Welcome, Clay! I agree! Staring down tho whole of PEP is a bit intimidating. Sweep the floor? Yah, I can do that. I'm glad it's helping you, too.


To see the exact requirements for a BB, and to post your pics to get certified, you'll go to particular BB thread (e.g. Sweep The Floor goes here: https://permies.com/wiki/pep-bb-nest-sand-sweepfloor)
If it's not something you've done before (frequently the case for myself), there's often helpful videos or articles to get one started.

Hi Clay, welcome to the wonderful world of PEP!  Each BB (Badge Bit) does have specific requirements.  At the top of this post, you can click on the links on the calendar and they'll take you to that BB thread.  Post the required pictures in that thread and you're on your way!

If it's too much, Clay, feel free to borrow a BB from another week that better suits your habits. For me, a stir-fry is something I can nearly do in my sleep (and frequently do!).

Maybe you're a pizza savant? Maybe you're a baker in disguise? Maybe you eat birdhouses!?

The soup I'm planning to do is a pretty ordinary (to me) chicken and vegetable soup.

Lee I honestly make soups about once a week but I dont have my wife and kids in town currently and  pridefully I want to do this bb with something more impressive than a single man stew.

I may do the stir fry bb tonight but really I was hoping to see ideas and cheer other people on till I get home from work to start mine

I cooked an egg and got it to slide around this morning for a BB, how about that for motivation!

Side note... is it okay to attempt to use my oven to kiln dry my Greenwood spoon so I can speed up the drying process?
