That's great! On that first map to do with loving your family, I'm not sure whether to laugh at New Jersey and Rhode Island or Wisconsin and Ohio.

That 2023 map is more what I expected...interesting contrast over a short period.

Depending on what is meant by "protect", one could be in trouble in Canada for following that statement.  Aside from the fact that it has gotten more difficult to purchase a rifle (compared to the other two qualifiers), I'm pretty sure pointing a firearm at a person is a Criminal Code offence.  I just don't have time to be able to confirm right now.

I recently watched a video about the collapse of the Mayan civilization. The presenter's opinion was that the population expanded past the carrying capacity of the land, a drought hit, and lots of people died quickly and the few that survived had to move elsewhere.
Then the land healed itself by regrowing its trees, covering much of the signs of the civilization that had existed.

It seems to me that humans have done similar on a now world-wide scale and that we're seeing the signs of people on a person-by-person level refusing to bring a child into this crowded planet.

Personally, I'm not convinced humans will go extinct from this, but if the population drops far enough, fast enough, there is hope that the planet can heal itself, and the cycle of the rise and fall of civilizations will continue.

People might be interested in the Soviet era maps produced of the world (including the USA) in secret during the cold war.

Im told many were lost in a warehouse fire but you can still buy them for many cities and areas.

They're at the top of the map! They're closest to the Arctic Pole!

Isn't that a good enough basis?

Just sharing this, which is the best I could find (but still not quite what I was looking for) to explain why hurricanes don't happen at the equator. Will update if I find a better one...

Another great bunch! But one of them not only left us off the map literally, but missed the fact that David Shearer brought not one, but two dead snapper to parliamentary question time in 2013. So double fail on them.

Hmm, that is a bad map.  Apparently in the 80s a Canadian parliament experienced a fish as well...

However, if you're looking for a fishy map, the Bangladesh one doesn't list a date. According to Wikipedia, their birth rate has dropped to 2.1 births per woman in 2024. Of course the problem is they have one of the densest populations in the world, unlike much of the Russian North where the density is very low.

I can't absolutely say the map is wrong without crunching a lot of numbers - when your population is that large, 2 kids per woman could still be a huge number - but their births/woman have been going down significantly since the 1970's, so it should be a moving target?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Bangladesh
https://www.macrotrends.net/global-metrics/countries/bgd/bangladesh/birth-rate

Then again, who knows how accurate the two sources are?

With the map above, I wonder how different it would be if they counted by weight instead of by head.

And we wonder why we get scary disease outbreaks. I get that some of this might correspond to ecosystems that suit certain animals more than other, but I suspect it's more Industrial Ag pressuring farmers with infrastructure, rules etc. If there are no pig abattoirs in Texas, there won't be many pigs!
