Make Four Different Soups (1/2 Gallon) - food.straw.soupsfour PEP BB

Neat; it's fun to be the first to submit for a BB! I made four soups -- Dakota pit chowder, leek soup, haybox chili, and today haybox sweet potato stew.

This is the first time I've tried in line photos!

It took a while to get this one but I think I got it :)

One haybox was at Wheaton Labs, the other was a cooler and blankets at my house.  Sorry for all the pics, it's better to do these BBs as a concentrated effort, not spread over two years :)

     - Chowder (Stovetop Chowder)
     - Chili (Death Ray/Haybox Chili)
 - Minimum of 4 raw ingredients per soup
 - At least 1 is cooked on a rocket stove or Dakota stove (soup)
 - At least 2 are finished in a haybox cooker (soup and chili)

Soup (Rocket Stove/Haybox Soup)
Ingredients: Leek, carrot, cabbage, celery, sunchoke, ground beef, summer sausage, chicken broth, tomato, olive oil, salt/pepper
Garnish/toppings: parmesan cheese



Stew (Slow Cooker Stew)
Ingredients: Leek, sunchoke, red onion, mushroom, zucchini, garlic, stew meat (beef), great northern beans, summer sausage, artichoke hearts, broth, tomato, green beans, Italian seasoning mix, salt/pepper, elbow macaroni noodles
Garnish/toppings: parmesan cheese


Chowder (Stovetop Chowder)
Ingredients: russet potato, broth, milk, ground beef, broccoli, olive oil, cheddar cheese, nutritional yeast, salt/pepper
Garnish/toppings: bacon, gorgonzola, green onion, kefir sour cream



Chili (Death Ray/Haybox Chili)
Ingredients: red onion, garlic, tomato, tomato paste, an assortment of beans, broth, apple cider vinegar, balsalmic vinegar, salt/pepper, olive oil, ground beef
Chili-free chili spice mix (recipe credit to Jenkin): 1.5 Tbs cinnamon, 1 tsp ginger, 1 tsp cloves, 1 tsp nutmet, 1 tsp oregano, and some turmeric
Garnish/topping: add frozen leftover rice to cool it down and pad it out for more servings

I cooked 1 gallon of each of these soups. Thats what it takes to feed an army of 8! The four I picked:

The raw ingredients included tomatoes, peppers, green onions, garlic, squash and 2 lbs. Ground venison. I cooked it on the normal stove.

2. Elk stew. Homade recipe
Raw ingredients included carrots, potatoes, apple cider vinegar, celery, thyme, and elk roast. I cooked it in the stove and then used a cooler as a hay box cooker.

3. Corn chowder. Old family recipe
Raw ingredients included included corn, bacon, potatoes, garlic and onions. I cooked it over a Dakota stove and used a hay box cooker.

4. Cream of broccoli soup, grandma's famous recipe
Raw ingredients included broccoli, scallions, Chives and garlic. Cooked this one on the stove.

Here’s my submission for making four different soups. I didn’t write down a recipe for any of them. I just throw stuff together and season to taste. All were cooked with a 6 quart pot to show they meet the 1/2 gallon requirement.
