To complete this
BB, the minimum requirements are:
- clean an oily dish (plate or bowl--not a skillet/pan/pot/etc) without
soap
- 95% goes into a
compost or animal
bucket
- 4% can be wiped out with a piece of paper that will later be a fire starter
- last 1% is removed with
hot water
- end result is squeaky clean
To show you've completed this Badge Bit, you must show proof of the following (as pictures or a
video < 2 mins):
- the oily dish after the meal is over
- the food scraps going into a compost or animal bucket (if applicable)
- the plate being wiped with a piece of paper for future fire starter
- the last bit of oil being removed with hot water
- the newly clean dish
Okay so I really wanted to do this BB with something really greasy so I could get a sense of what the BB was getting at, so I thought my grease jar would be a good one, even though it is not specifically a dish. Hear me out. I store my bacon fat at room temp so every so often I clean out the whole thing so there isn't a risk of it going rancid. To avoid contaminating the next batch, I want is squeaky clean with no oil residue from the previous batch. It's also been wicked cold here so I though the
chickens could use a high calorie treat!
Here is the grease jar. Super handy for collecting bacon fat and convenient to access when we grease the
cast iron (which is daily in our house). Clearly oodles of grease.
I scraped it out with a wooden spatula and put it in the
chicken bucket:
Wiped it out with a piece of paper cloth to light a fire with later:
Hot water to remove the rest of the grease:
