we're preparing for the garden master class, it's coming in hot.

fixing hazardous icy walkways.

RMH are MORE efficient than most wood burning heat sources but they still need feed. We're out getting the fuel in a foot or more.

its rough but it made it to fruition.
Go with the flow that only you know, and consider the rest as sketchy at best. Far be it from me to try and turn moss into a tree - for moss has a beauty same as carpet has a duty. Call me Apple, I require a minimum number of chill hours to be fruitful and crush.
After spending the chilly AM moving snow and trying not to end up in a snow drift with a vehicle... it was on to the HAH. A good chance to break out some kitchen kit that no one here has used yet.
getting-chilly.jpg
The weather is bringing winter for a little while, time to layer up. Good timing for a HAH tho.

A table full of coffee delivery discs! Breakfast will be extra the next several days and the heart stopping amount of butter won't go to waste with extra cold weather either.

a couple of shots from the slab'delier, cleaning it up for the planer.

This slab is sopping wet and beading sap quick enough to watch grow. I think it'll turn out okay, just a little different to work with.

Lights fit like a glove and it's looking clean
rmh-red-cabin-overhaul.jpg
here's a BA shot of Steve blasting slag on the red cabin rmh. I've brazed with oxyacetylene but never cut with it.

Wiring all the lights up in parallel. As usual, lots of ways to do this but shrink tube and solder always works.

Here's Steve and Daniel installing the mounting points for the slab'delier.

Yesterdays pics but regardless, Great Job!
slab-delier-2.jpg
There's always a couple extra wrinkles to iron out to get it that extra 5%.
slab-delier.jpg
Plenty of light, clean looks and it will be simple to remove and setup again for future events. Also, plenty of room for some artistic nuance and subtle mods for fun.
barrel-cap.jpg
here's Grey's afternoon project - building a prototype cob cap for one of our RMH.

There never seems to be enough of these to go around.
custom-kracker-2.jpg
This was one of the best krackers made here at an event but it needed a better edge.
custom-kracker-3.jpg
I bevel the angular blade, took the dings out and gave this mild steel a little bit nicer edge.
drafty-door.jpg
Another pet project around the general cleaning and busy work of event prep. Fix the drafty door so we can hold onto a few more btu's for a little longer.
shop-door-1.jpg
I wore safety glasses for this one, metal doesn't belong in eyes.

a couple small holes through original striker plate and lock it in with a couple 3
keeping-the-heat.jpg
One draft down a few more to go, the door is tight and latches with ease. Drafts, insulation and then heat source IMO.

It's a new year and another chance to figure it all out.

Using the j-tube to heat several gallons of water for each meal. High efficiency low tech - it's still a kick to switch rocket on from the wood feed to the riser with a little air.
making-cob.jpg
The event continues but the boot show must go on. Grey making cob in the shelter of the shop in stealth mode for some mods to the dog star cottage rocket.

I just had the craziest dream. This tiny ad was in it.
