Most of this was done at Base Camp using the ~3gal buckets from the Fisher Price House. In addition to those three, I also started Ruth Stout Composting at home with my ~4gal trash can and extra bowl of goodness. I’d say roughly a dozen gallons overall
- a photo of the bucket of kitchen scraps next to the opened mulch
- a photo of the empty bucket and the new mound of mulch
- repeat for second bucket
- describe the volume of your bucket(s) and how full they were
Lots of buckets have been generating with the events on so I have had lots of opportunities to do this!
The first image shows that my kitchen scraps bucket is about the same size as a 9 US quarts cooking pot.
1 bucket = 9 US quarts = 2.25 US gallons
2.25 US gallons * 6 buckets = 13.5 US gallons
=> 6 buckets it will be to make sure I reach the 10 gallon goal!
Every bucket ended up being quite full (last two buckets were from in quince season ) and I put them all in a closeby but different spot.
Rebekah Harmon flagged this submission as an edge case. BBV price: 0 Note: Laura, I do not think that bucket is 10 gallons. Can you provide pictures of another bucket being filled? or otherwise prove your bucket is 10 gallons?
I did this at scale during my garden bed prep, and its all working out really well. I'm able to do no-dig gardening henceforth ... I just add stuff on top of what is there already.
