Building a Better World in Your Backyard - 12 physical books

In one of the updates for the kickstarter, I asked people who are they going to give their books to.   Here is the full update.

Some of the suggestions:

  - "friends who are likewise into this kind of stuff."

  - "one to one of my favorite homesteading pals"

  - "I'm going to affix BookCrossing.com stickers to them and leave them for other people to discover."

  - "some folks that were vendors in the farmers market"

  - "like-minded eco-nerds"

  - "to other architects"

  - " to our local library"

  - "to my grandkids school library"

  - "to as many libraries in my area as will accept them!"

  - "Some friends who need nudging"

  - "I like the idea of leaving it someplace, with a note to share its travels."

  - "thank you gifts to the volunteers who come here to offer workshops"

  - "a few people that are looking to start the change"

  - "Putting in a note to say something like read, implement, sign, and then give the book to someone else when they are done with it, kind of the real deal 'Pay it Forward'"

  - "There are a couple of houses around here with "Little Free Libraries" that I may seed a copy into!"


Other interesting suggestions:

I got 7 copies of the book. One is a personal copy, signed by the authors, the other 6 aren't signed.
Now I have two copies left, one of them is for a friend I'll surely meet in person soon. The other one is my personal copy. I think I'll lend that one to my sister first and then later to others (who'll give it back to me after reading).
The other copies I sent out in different directions as gifts to persons who do interesting projects where they meet a lot of people who might be interested. I made it clear the books are for passing on, by filling in my name on the list first and then the name of the person I sent it to.

I was lucky enough to get 12 copies!!  Obvio keeping my lovely copy with personal note (thank you and how cool the cover feels btw) and was planning to give the others to people in my life who I knew would appreciate the concepts without being 'scared off'...  well.  that didn't happen.  

I went to a BNI meeting (business networking - ack); it's a regular weekly thing since I moved here 5 months ago.  An attempt to build my client base and grow with like-minded entrepreneurs.  They constantly surprise me with their heart and values.  Anyhoo - long story short - I offered one of my books out to see if anyone else might be curious, and there was a feeding frenzy and suddenly I have no more copies!!!  It was heartening!!  So now I'm off to order a bunch more to give away as pressies since I can see people are thirsty for it.

Humbled, gratified, and majorly proud to be a part of the efforts.

I think I'll give one to my district agricultural office and tell them to pass it around to other districts.

I still have not read the book. I was waiting to get the physical books to read because I prefer actual books over ebooks. The package never showed up. The last update on the tracking  number on september 27th shows 'in transit to next facility'. I have filed a missing package report with the usps and they have not found it. I guess it is time to call them. I may see if my library will buy the book or I might just order a copy myself.

Justin, if you supported the kickstarter, then go to the magical kickstarter support forum and we will get everything mended.

I need to start distributing my ebook codes. I guess I wanted to read it first. I only have a couple of my books spoken for, so the suggestions are helpful

I got the freebie read a bit on my Amazon book thingee and it was a good read. I expect the unrevealed stuff to be even better than the revealed and I still like to hold a book more than I do a laptop for reading.

I noted a Permaculture argument that also rings true for the trials and tribulations surrounding the English grammar/prescriptions threads. People, even when they find out the truth are loathe to change, loathe to reject the old canards they have been taught thru their formative years, largely because they don't even know where to start.

I have been watching a lot of this PC stuff lately. I just came across Geoff Lawton and his desert project. Tell me, anyone, have there been any threads on China's greening of the desert, Rechsand, growing rice in the desert, ... .

Cudos to all you folks that made this ebook such a success.  

I almost hate to ask cuz I don't wear glasses, except to read.  Will there be a normal sized print and a large print edition available in the future.  There's so much good info packed into those pages, but I've had two copies sitting on my desk for about two weeks and havn't even started to read yet.  I guess I would like them in a more normal print size please.  If not, out comes the magnifying glass, and I'm not blind yet.  Silly me, huh?

I donated one of my copies to my local public library.  I don't think that they're used to people donating books...

I have also recommended the book on Quora.

I also re-read the book, and there were a couple of tidbits that I missed on Permies myself.  For example, the high-dry outhouse surrounded by willow trees and other "poop monsters" didn't even occur to me.  

I haven't bought a copy myself yet, but I did recommend it to the library and they sent me an e-mail yesterday saying they have purchased a copy, so it will now be part of the Coos-Curry County library system.  Hopefully it gets a lot of reads.

Is there a link?  I'm not familiar with quora.

I look at amazon, goodreads and audible everyday (4.9 stars, 4.43 stars, 3.5 stars).  Maybe I should look in more places?

My friend is a middle school teacher so I’m giving them all to her so we can indoctrinate the youths.

Just bought another 24 for a course I am running.  It was recommended by one of the people I gave a copy to to be the main text.  She said that she cried the first time she read it.  It is now her constant companion.
Ordered 12 then upgraded to 24.  Really excited

i have given out all my books now so i guess it's time to order more , i had at least a dozen each of bwb and skip . will you take goldbacks for a dozen more ? rumor has it montana will have their own series very soon

We have crypto, paypal and stripe all set up to process things automatically.  Anything else requires manual processing (by me), so we charge $10 more for that.  

I learned about goldbacks last year.  I currently have none.  I don't mind giving them a shot, but it will seriously slow things down cuz you gotta mail them to me, and then I have to manually record them and stuff.

yes , we can do it either way
upma (united precious metals association) is a little like a bank but you can have u.s. gold, u.s silver, goldbacks or dollars in your account and can shift it between them with no fee to make the transfer . they also have a debit card you can attach to the account

Assuming physical copies exist at Wheaton Labs, would it be possible to procure some when we're there in September without the additional cost of shipping?  I have the eBook, but with some physical copies I could drop some off into "little free libraries" the poodle and I wander by to infect more minds.

Happy to provide books for sale. I have some math to do in order to figure out a reasonable price. However I can confirm that it will be more affordable if you buy a dozen or more at a time, similar to the online purchase options.
