The rocket engine is a really cool innovation. I heard that it is like a multi-tool. You can put different 'attachments' on to make it run a hot tub, or a kiln or forge?!

The Permaculture Technology Jamboree 2023 was a resounding success! The Wheaton Labs community, in collaboration with expert instructors and enthusiastic attendees, created innovative artifacts that are redefining the potential of what a permaculture perspective can offer humanity—surpassing the expectations set by past events.

The team present at the event captured an extensive amount of footage, far exceeding our initial estimates. This comprehensive collection provides a detailed look at all the processes, from design to implementation, of these sustainable solutions. After reviewing the raw material, I am confident that we can craft an exceptional movie, sharing with the world the groundbreaking experiments conducted at Wheaton Labs.

and much more!

A big part of this kickstarter is the new moive "freaky cheap heat" offered at the $1 level.  And as part of that, mud, andres and i made this infographic

That is an amazing amount of information condensed onto one infographic. Must of been a hell of a job collating all the info.

In the interest of completeness, can you add information for electric furnaces and oil heaters?  I would be interested in comparing those two methods with all the other amazing information that is presented here.  Thanks for all the time and effort that it took to organize this chart!

Nice! 4 + 4 is 8, which is a lucky number in Chinese and it's also the infinity sign, if you put it on its side!

We started off with eight more types of heaters and 20 more types of rows.  Eventually we realized that if we add too much to the document, people would not look at it.  And it would also take us four times more time to create it.

As is, this project took a huge amount of time.  Maybe in a few years we can update it a bit.

Wonderful work. A labor of love to be sure. Super informative. Makes one wonder why anyone with a source of wood would not choose a RMH. 👍😊

100,000 wood stoves are sold each year.  I would think that at least half of those would be a rocket mass heater.

I agree that RMHs should be way more popular than they are. But there is only the Liberator and and another brand that is available to purchase. Otherwise, consumers have to build their own. That is a stumbling block. I love the idea, but even I haven't built one myself, yet.

Then there is the building code and insurance aspects.

Then there is the bit that it doesn't look beautiful. I love that it is functional. I love the industrial, rough DIY look of it. But many people want something beautiful as well as functional. Or their partner does.

I think the rocket hot tub in this movie will do a lot to bring rocket mass heaters forward.
It is a fast and safe way to heat a lot of water.

so convenient and the way uncle mud built it makes it seem so easy and obvious.

amazing work

thank you!

Can you make the heating graphic clickable into a larger picture?  Can't quite read it all.  Very nicely done and attractive as well as informational.
Staff note (Andrés Bernal) :

Just bumped up my $15 to $100. I am laughing because I don't have the strength, human resources, nor tools to do these log plans!!! It looks like just a great project and I hope to gain new knowledge to perhaps work with the smaller projects.

Following for the next stretch goal. 😀

Hello Theresa!

Thank you !!
I am so glad they are doing a kickstarter for this movie so we can see how all this stuff is done!

It is pretty impressive to see these huge projects come together.  From taking down the trees to turning them into magnificent structures and furniture.  I have my own land with big pines that need to come down.  If only I had a crew of strong lovely folks to build stuff for me!

At Wheaton Labs they really make stuff look easy.  A lot of it is the tricks and knowing what to do.

Like using green wood!  Green wood is so much easier to cut into.  I thought carving wood was hard or I was bad at it because I would beat on a log with an axe and get nowhere.
I kind of gave up because it was hard and I felt like I did not have the right tools.   I started lashing everything together and using the natural crotches in the wood rather than bothering with carving a notch.

I was trying to be respectful of the forest and using dead wood that was still in great condition.   So I was working way too hard and it was frustrating.

At Wheaton Labs, they do it differently.  They look at the forest as a whole, to see how it is functioning and what they can do to make it healthier.   They have a lot of conifers and opening it up allows for more sunlight, diversity and soil building.  Selecting live trees makes the projects easier and the forest more productive.

I love the idea of pinning the green wood together with dry wood pegs!

Samantha, thank you for your reply and information. Your mentioning about tricks is a very good point, thanks for sharing this. This is encouraging and leaving me with increased anticipation, particularly as the $100 level includes the extra 20 hours of footage!!

Yes!   Allerton Abbey is so beautiful.  Nestled in it's hugel bed gardens, it is like having your own private world to rest, recharge and pick the best food ever right out your front door.

It would be so cool!  I want to plan my next family vacation at Wheaton Labs!

Paul should advertise Allerton Abbey (and the other guest dwellings) as a B&B and get $300/night because it is a one of a kind experience! But it is probably too much hassle to coordinate.
