My friend, "Alfred" we will call him, and I, went to the reservoir last week. Within 10 minutes, some very hungry mosquitos has us both miserably wishing we had never opened the car doors! His back was loaded with angry, red welts. I recommended lavender oil (for the antihistamine properties) and chickweed ointment for the itching. He actually put it on himself 5 times the first day; every time they bothered him. Day two, he probably remembered three times or so. By the third day, they were almost gone, and I'm glad I remembered to snap a picture, because he didn't complain of them at all. His older siblings, on the other hand, now have pea-sized scabs all over their arms and legs where their bites didn't get any treatment. Gotta follow Dr. Mom's recommendations, now!

My -friend-, lets call her DD (Dear Daughter), got stung by at first what I thought was a bee but now I wonder if it was a yellow and black wasp. No picture so there's that mystery.

I got the joy of treating her from the minute it happened, beginning with removing the bug from her foot as it was still attached, checking for a stinger (there was none), then we went inside for further treatment.

Of course, it hurt, and became inflamed. Many tears were shed.

First I put an aloe vera gel/colloidal silver mixture that I have on her wound to kill off any possible bacteria and provide some relief while I put together a comfrey poultice.

You can see the image of her red, inflamed foot, post aloe gel and before the poultice. By the time I got the poultice ready she wasn't really crying anymore but then she sure did cry a ton after I put it on... so I only left it on for a few minutes because I wasn't sure if it stung/burned or not- I've never actually used comfrey before!

She returned to playing later that day, so I take it she approves.

I wasn't able to get a picture of her giving me a thumbs up because she (being a young child) was confused what I was even requesting.
Also due to not really wanting to put pictures of her up here I was hoping you'd accept these images of her foot, if not then oh well I guess.

Pseudonym: BC

BC has rough reactions to ant bites. They normally swell and blister, remaining itchy and painful for 2 weeks or more. Occasionally, they have gotten infected to the point that she went to the doctor for antibiotics.

BC stopped by my house for a quick visit. She had numerous ant bites on her ankle and foot that were in various stages of healing. While getting out of her car at my home, she received 2 more ant bites on her foot.

Remedy: I ushered BC inside to my bathroom and instructed her to wash the area with cool water while I gathered supplies.
After she dried her foot, I applied a plantain tincture compress and wrapped it with gauze, telling her to keep it in place for at least 20 minutes. I gave her anti-itch infused oil (rosemary, lavender, and peppermint) and recommended that or an ice pack of it continued to itch.

Result: BC said one bite immediately felt fine with the compress, but the other bite still itched. She left the compress on all evening and applied an ice pack on top of it. By the next morning, she said the 2 newest bites were barely visible, and they weren't hard and swollen like she's used to. She said, "it's a miracle herb! I want to buy some from you!" Plantain remains one of my favorite herbs :)
