I sharpened a knife too!  I actually did it a week ago but saved the photos till today

For those with sharp eyes, this is the same knife I sharpened last year (further up in this thread).  I chose too sharp an angle and it got dull too quickly.  This time I chose much better and was able to graft 51 trees without it dulling on me.  Yay!

Not the sharpest knife in the drawer.  Still isn't.  But it's much better than it was. Japanese stainless steel, which is not the best grade of stainless one might hope for.  Anyway, onto the pics.

The best knife I ever owned. I'd let it go way more dull than I realized.

Ragged cut. More of a tear really.

Staff note (Mike Barkley) :

It's already a major improvement but I think it can be sharper with just a little more work. That sharpening looks rather coarse. Perhaps using a finer one will help finish it up.

Staff note (Mike Barkley) :

er ... sharpening stone.

Much more satisfied with this.

Staff note :

Looks like it could get better yet but I'll certify it as is.  Feel free to keep going until the waveyness is gone.  And your next air badge!

Michael, could you tell me more about using the cardboard?  as a final sharpening stone/board?

I have a Japanese hand plane that needs resharpening. Would that count for here?

I think not...  But there isn't really a good BB for plane blades.  I'm thinking the closest thing is Sharpen a chisel, unless I don't understand the business end of Japanese hand planes.  If you think that's a similar type of sharpening technique/style, post it there and we'll see what happens.
Yes, my master! Here is the tiny ad you asked for:
