I used a Dual sided wet stone and strops that I made out of
wood and leather. The knife is made from an old circular sawblade, and thus is
carbon steel -so it rusts easily and dulls quicker. I left it on a camp stove recently and thought the stove was off, and alas it was on - so that's why there is coloring in the blade!
I used the rougher side of the stone first to do the grunt of the work removing the metal, then flipped it over to the smoother side and added
water after every 10 strokes or so.
After i was satisfied with the blade having a decent edge and a burr, I worked it on the two strops and was pleased with the edge I got.
What a difference it makes to have a sharp knife! It slices much much easier now.
