Larry,

About the skiddable structures freebie:

You are right - the "INBOX" button is not clickable. This is because you can't gain access to it from that page. Instead, you have to come through the freebie link that was included in the dailyish email.

In the latest dailyish email that was sent to you, do you see a link like this?

Thanks for reading the daily-ish email!  We believe that your participation in our community is changing the world for the better! To express our gratitude, here's a bonus freebie for you!  You have 48 hours to grab this.  If you don't get it within 48 hours, don't worry - it will be offered to you again later.

Can you tell me how long the freebies should take to show up in the My Stuff tab? I clicked all the way through to that point and was logged in, but now I can't find it in the My Stuff area. Help!

Hi Heidi! I'm looking into things, and it looks like you need to check your dailyish emails and follow the link in them. Once you follow the link in your email, you'll have claimed it, and you can access it any time (either from MyStuff, or just by visiting the thread where the freebie is listed, or even just by going to the freebies list here: https://permies.com/goodies).

It looks like right now you might have in your inbox the "10 Podcast Review of the book Just Enough by Azby Brown" freebie? At least, that's my most recent one I've gotten. Go through your recent dailyishes, and at the bottom, just before the tiny ad, should be a link to the podcasts. Follow the link and you'll have your freebie. And, in a few days, another link will come in a dailyish for a different freebie!

I hope this helps, and respond back if the link doesn't work!

so...  it seems that (for me) i get the email for freebie and its always expired.  i began looking at the list and i see one that will have a date.. like we offered this 4 days ago and you didnt grab it.  lol.  in my case, this example is bee keeping.

i go back and re read dailies and i dont see it offered.  then, this morning i get the daily showing bee keeping, and of course, its expired !!

i enjoy the posts.. dream of boot camp.. think of being off grid every day.  there's this new thing i just found out about.  people call it "google" and i ve heard many topics are free, so if i never get a "freebie" from here... it may not end the world.

since i stumbled on this thread, i thought i would leave my own freebie.

when all else fails... google !!

ana,

Thank you for forwarding that dailyish email to me. The link in that email was not a freebie link. It was just a tiny ad.

Freebie links look like this:
https://permies.com/forums/freebie/show/xxxxxxxx

You will get the bee keeping freebie again in one of the dailyish emails in future.

No worries! Sometimes this stuff gets a bit confusing, but we're all getting the hang of it over time. Keep checking your dailyish emails, and you should get a code soon! One goes out every few days, and if you haven't had one in a few days, then one should be arriving soon!

You can also look at https://permies.com/goodies, to see when the last one was sent to you. It looks like the Native Bee Guide link was sent on May 6th. It's been a few days since then, so you should be getting another link in a dailyish soon!

Im so glad I read this because I never ever realised about the whole scrolling to the bottom of the dailyish to find the freebie. No wonder I haven't been grabbing the freebies?! Was wondering why all this time, also Nicole you said im not subscribed to the dailyish as a reason for not getting the freebies but I promise you I am which is exactly why I'm here with this right now. Thanks again for the explanation, I'll just go quietly sit in a corner with my dunce cap for a little while. 🤣

Uncle! I give up... the dailyish links dont seem to work, I keep trying to no avail. In particular the greenhouse of the future link keeps asking me to sign up for the dailyish emails. I entered my new email, which I used for the kickstarter, so I tried that thinking it might start a new dailyish on the new email. Same thing. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Omg....I had no idea "freebies" were available for only 48 hours! I am not computer savvy at all...so when I actually looked around here, I learned something, so thank you!
My problem is, when I start reading my dailyish, I absolutely am so engrossed, I can't stop! I spent hours reading, and not doing....anything. I spent hours today reading. I love it here. I read on my phone, I read on my computer, and I told my mom that it is addictive!
So, while I feel like a flunky in the tech world, I am learning valuable Permie knowledge.
So that's a big win!

I looked at the records (you can see them if you click here), and it looks like you've been subscribed to the dailyish, and have been getting freebies for a while. The Greenhouse of the Future was sent to you on June 15th "This freebie was offered to you 44 days ago and you did not grab it during the window it was offered. But it will be offered to you again in a future daily-ish!"

Basically, every few days a new freebie comes in your email. If you click the link within 48 hours, you get the freebie!

It looks like the last one you were offered was on July 26th and it was the 100th issue of Permaculture Magazine. Keep an eye on your next few dailyishes, and click the freebie link! If you don't see a freebie link in the next few dailyishes, please report here because maybe you've found a glitch, and we want to fix that!

I am grateful for the freebies systems. It's fun to receive a gift. I do find the time limit frustrating, tho, as I have limited, sketchy internet and no cell signal, so I've missed out on some things I'm most interested in.

Thank you!

The freebies go out every few days in the dailyish. They're random, and are a way to thank you for subscribing to the dailyish.

It looks like you claimed Daron's Unofficial Companion Guide to the Rocket Oven DVD

You can see all the freebies you've claimed by going to Your Freebies Page. That'll show when each freebie was emailed, and have links to the ones you've claimed.

I hope this helps explain things!

Ok, having issues.
I followed the link to the rmh microdoc, and the page says “free”, and limited time offer, with a countdown. But, I see no way to acquire it. If I click on the picture it takes me to the paying page, and there is nothing else I see aside from links ti various threads...
What am I missing?

If you have access to it (which you should), the video will be embedded in the page, just above the "upgrade plans" area.

Oh weird, that's totally missing the right button!

For now, scroll to the bottom of the screen and click "desktop view" and you should have your button.

I'm going to do some testing on the mobile view right now!

Nicole, thanks so much for working the issue

I did try your suggestion. There was no popup with the desk view option so I used the chrome option for desk view and it did change / add the button.

I'll move to my PC tomarrow to access it.  Thanks again

Check your dailyish email every day--the links only last for 48 hours. A few days later, a new freebie will come, with it's own expiration date. The freebies are a--hopefully--fun way to keep rewarding people for reading the dailyish. We have so many freebies because we want to keep rewarding people!

Tip: f you snag all of the dailyishes as you spot them--rather than just the ones you want--it increases the chances that the next one you get will be one you want.

I can't recall the exact amount of freebies available, but let's just say 20. Say of the 20 freebies, you only want 1. If you miss one of them, then you have to wait through 19 more freebies to get to it. But, if you claim them as you go along, then if you miss the freebie you want, you only have to wait until the next freebie comes out, for it to be the freebie you want.

I hope this helps!

We are doing our best to navigate a weird path.

Other organizations spam you constantly and their site is just one big ocean of advertisements of one type or another.  And non-profits beg for money over and over.  At least when we beg for money we are offering something in return.   Hosting stuff on the internet costs money.  And hosting a big community on the internet costs big money.   And then there is a long list of expenses beyond hosting.

At the same time we have big ideas for projects to infect more brains with permaculture.  And those usually need money too.

We try to learn about how to make this all work, but we really don't like doing it.   We have learned that in the time 90% or more of everything to work out has to do with email.  And there are lots of things in that space that we have not learned yet / are struggling to learn about /  are avoiding learning about.

Other sites will do all sorts of obnoxious stuff to try to get your email address.  Because that's the big game changer.  We do the same, but we try to take as much of the sting out as possible.  And once we got it connected to offering freebies, all sorts of cool people offered us cool stuff to put in the system.  Now we feel far more comfortable with all of this!

And then there is the open rate:  the best way to improve the open rate is with good information.  I think we are doing a pretty good job!   And then we got the idea of giving people a new freebie every few days to improve the open rate.  The way it would work is that each freebie would time out in 48 hours.   So to get the freebie, you have to grab it quickly.  Tada!  Improved open rate!

For a bunch of volunteers stumbling along try to get things to work - while avoiding most of the "proper" stuff ....   I think we are doing pretty good.   I think our freebies are pretty substantial and cool.  I think our general content has very few ads and those ads are pretty small, discreet and, best of all, on topic.  The ads themselves are worth looking at with the content.

I like that people help us learn to do better with all this.   And, at the same time, be patient with us as a lot of this is sorta our kryptonite.  (html emails vs. text; drop email addresses that have not opened in ____ weeks to reduce spam points;  more reports, analysis, coding, new email protocols/rules, ...  just can't stand to look at it ...)

I do hope to see some posts once in a while that people like the way we do this stuff and like the free stuff they get.  It helps inspire our volunteers to do more cool stuff.

Thanks for being part of our community.   I hope that our community is making a massive, global, positive change.

My freebie list has 4 things like

Emailed: This freebie was offered to you 1072 days ago and you did not grab it during the window it was offered. But it will be offered to you again in a future daily-ish!

(yes, I didn't know they were 48-hour things, either, so I didn't "claim" them).

And the other 40 or so items are

Pending: You will receive this freebie in one of the daily-ish emails we will send to you.

I wonder, is this normal? Are the freebies going out at all? I'm getting daily-ishes, but they only have the tiny ads in them...

I saw a report the other day showing thousands of people getting the freebies, so I'm pretty sure it is working.

Yes, the dailyish goes out with a freebie and then you have 48 hours to grab it.
