POST 602 (DAY 612, Wednesday, 2022.04.13)
[Morning Entry]
…… grateful for cold tolerance.. When visiting Japan for a missions trip, in 2008, I learned that I love ice cold dips at the local bath house “ofuro” cold tub..
Hans—cool! I didn’t know that kale could do that.. do you garden much?
Ryan—thank you! I’m still working on the last one you sent me.. (super slow reader).. you’re helping me build my mini starter library!.. I thought of three that are on my wishlist—in order of neat!-factor (any of which would be a tremendous blessing).. even just the one you got me, makes me feel so excited.. “country comforts”, “back to basics”, and “the joint book”.. below are some pictures of the covers..

Please be careful going into what OSHA classifies as "Enclosed Spaces". Tanks, cisterns, dug wells or other areas within which gasses could accumulate. If there is an accumulation of sleepy gasses in them, you pass out and someone might crawl down to rescue you, then they pass out and a third person joins the party. Hence bringing a canary down into the coal mine with you...

I agree with Mike. Confined spaces are so dangerous because they seem like they're ok, yet people die every year in them. It's not just the presence of high levels of CO2 or other gases, but the lack of oxygen due to multiple factors that kills people. This can happen even in something as seemingly benign as a root cellar due to the plants slowly breaking down. There is a lot of info out there on how to address confined spaces safely.
Confined space entry planning is a big part of site-safety training. "Self rescue" is pretty straightforward; planning for "external rescue" gets pretty complex as seen in various checklists, e.g.:
Edit: A confined space initially filled with clean air may rapidly become a CO2 trap in the absence of ventilation. That's why entrants are often required to wear a personal CO2 monitor. On the plus side, a slow CO2 buildup usually produces symptoms that can be recognized while self-rescue is still possible.

I think this side track has hijacked Dez's thread enough. Let's let him get back to doing epic shit!
