This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the sand badge in Community.

In this Badge Bit, you will make a brand a special physical location with a sign, as well as make a public thread about it on permies.

Examples of locations to brand:
    - tree
    - structure
    - trail
    - point
    - berm
    - hugelkultur bed
    - pond
    - road
    - freaky big rock
    - cliff
    - gate
    - paddock
    - bench
    - winter sledding spot

For ideas on how to make a sign, check out the Dimensional Lumber's badge bit on Making a Sign. Here's some great examples of signs at Wheaton Labs (more can be found here):

Turtle Lot has a lot of turtle sculptures on it:

Pearl Road is named after Paul's grandmother, Pearl Wheaton

Another example is Plum Plateau, which has lots of plum trees

To complete this BB, the minimum requirements are:
- a public thread at permies with pics and some description and story
- a sign at the location
     - a small bit of art, story or significance

To document your completion of the BB, provide the following:
 - a link to the permies thread about your location
 - pic of the sign hanging or posted at the location

Clarifications:
 - No plywood, OSB or particle board

Here's a video on how to make a directional sign post

Pretty sure Paul doesn't want the use of paint unless it's milk paint, though!

Last night I made a sign for my son's Tree Fort House, with the woodburner I set I bought (woodburning isn't as easy as I thought it would be!)

On a piece of scrap maple that we had, I sketched out the words (my son did NOT want any pictures on his sign).

Then I woodburned it.

Then oiled it with a mix of beeswax and coconut oil to preserve it, and installed eyehooks to hang it by (my son wanted it to hang, rather than to be on a post)

Today we installed it with some hemp twine.

And now I have some really happy kids

I'm not particularly following the PEP stuff, but this tickled me. My grandparents beach house in Australia has a branded sign on the gate. It is an old piece of drift wood.

It has had the branding renewed many times over the years by various people as it fades and weathers, but as far as I know it is the same piece of wood from 40+ years ago. I first branded it with my grandfather when I was about 5. Again when I visited with my wife on honeymoon, and again 18 months ago with my eldest son who was 5 at the time. When my grandfather passed away I was unable to attend his funeral, as we were in England, but each of the grandchildren chose an item to put out at the memorial service and a note explaining the connection with Tom. I chose the sign as was one of the first "projects" I remember doing with anyone.

I'll see if I can dig out a photo.

Last time I did it was with a huge magnifying glass. Previously it was with a hot poker, heated in a wood fire.

Here is the thread I made about The Library at Wheaton Labs' Basecamp, and this is the slightly artistic sign I made for The Library. I made the sign out of scrap wood from the Shop.

These are photos of me making the sign.

I had oiled the sign with raw linseed oil!

This is the sign hanging above the blue door! I hanged it up by screwing the sign in!

So, now, I think it will be clearer to visitors what The Library is when they come to visit!

I'm thinking that the woodburning of the book probably doesn't qualify on it's own for "- a small bit of art, story or significance," but the descriptions in your thread count for stories and significance.

Here is my BB attempt:

I introduce you to Coop Du Jour - Your Daily Poultry Special!

Please see the link to the thread  Help Building a Mobile Chicken Coop where I describe why I need to build a mobile coop. It includes a video of the mobile coop in action!

Here is picture of me making the sign:

Here is a picture of the sign in the final location:

I think this coop meets the 'spirit" of this BB even though the location itself is mobile. Naming the coop will allow me to direct people to the correct coop (there are 2 coops on sight and 5 different animal enclosures) and the name is fun!

To document the completion of the BB, I have provided the following:
 - The Treehouse has a new sign.
