I made a wood burned sign for a turtle crossing along a local bike trail and posted a thread about it here:

https://permies.com/p/2232220

There is a shot of the sign at it's permanent location at the end of the video in the above thread. Thanks and hope you enjoy!

Today I hung a sign for my kids' Feral Feline Foundry!

I made the sign out of clay (more pictures at Make a Ceramic Tile Informational Sign)

Feral Feline Foundry
The kids, a year older, at the entrance to Feral Feline Foundry

Feral Feline Foundry is the place where we found our two cats 7 years ago. We spotted little kittens coming out of the salmonberry, and set up a trap we borrowed from my grandpa and lured them in with cans of tuna.

One of our two cats, Black Kitty, when we first caught her

These are the same two cats featured in the picture on my profile, which was taken for the Can you compete with our own permies farmer? competition.

Me, my kids, my felted dragons, and our two cats!

My kids hacked out Feral Feline Foundry from the salmonberry bramble behind my daughter's garden. The kids have designated areas as a kitchen (a stump), as washing area (moss on the side of a tree), a workroom (with a back wall made from the branches that were cleared from the fort), a coat rack (from a salmonberry with trimmed branches), their bedrooms (giant ferns), a living room (a log laid on it's side) with a hanging xylophone. There's tripping wire (made from blackberry vines) and logs to trip invaders, and even a little fairy playground.

I really love that my kids have made this place their own in so many way!

Branded my She Shed!

I think of building my shed as the beginning of my Permaculture journey. I became confident creating something I KNOW the neighbor's were talking about (only a couple had the courage to ask what we were doing) in a non conventional manner. There were piles of pallets in our driveway all summer LOL

I began researching more traditional construction methods and realized that the methods I learned as a kid were not they only way.

Hubby had branded a farm road on our property that I use much more than he does, with a name I decided I didn't like. It related to a war, and I'm looking for peace in my garden (not counting the birds).

So we did some negotiating, and ended up with a theme: the lane is just the first step! Any Beatles fans out there?

Today I made a sign for my backyard, specifically for a trail that produces a ton of garden giantS (aka wine cap or king stopharia) mushrooms. Two years ago I inoculated aspen mulch with king stropharia spent spawn blocks and this trail has been very productive. My family and I fondly call this trail 'Shroom Alley and we harvest from it often.

I used wood that use to be shelving in my neighbor's garage, hemp twine, linseed oil, and a woodburner. I should have anticipated that the knot in the wood might make the sign hard to read so I'll have to look out for that better next  time. Regardless, I love the sign and now my family wants to put signs up every where. How fun! =)
