From my search on Kickstarter, yours is the fourth most popular publication kickstarter the site has on Earth, and the second-most popular in the untied states.

I feel like the better approach would be for people to take one or two of their copies and bring them to their local library as a gift. We might reach more libraries that way and it is much easier for us to handle logistically.

I think their algorithm is influenced by the projects you have backed. Are you in incognito mode? If so, that's kinda cool!

"I feel I should note for anyone who has already pledged to the campaign and also wished to increase their pledge amount that you need to be careful how you do it. Kickstarter allows you just increase your dollar amount without changing your reward. So if you want the rewards with the increased pledge amount you need to make sure you changed that too! How I did this was to log into the kickstarter campaign and click on the “manage your pledge” button. This then gives me a button to “change your pledge” which I clicked on. This then shows me my current reward as well as a list of all the other reward levels. It took me a bit to figure out how to change my reward level as I’m looking for something to click on. What I realized was that I simply have to click on the entire block listing what’s in the reward level I want. The whole block acts as a button, where as I was looking for a “select this” button or something. Once I clicked on the whole block I got a button to “continue” and confirm my change."

Once again, at work... but looking for ideas of places to promote the Kickstarter...

I read a New York Times article about replacing lawns with gardens... she has written a few other similar articles.

Which had a link to another site of interest: attainable-sustainable and she has a forthcoming book in the same vein...

Im not in the missoula area, but have been very successful rippings dvds in the pasts. Have done dozens of mainstream ones. If you want to ship it I can rip it. :)

This guy, Kyle, says he wants this question here:   how many of your physical copies do you want us to send to US libraries?

"untied states"  - there's gotta be an hour of material in there somewhere.

For a while, we were "the #1 most popular".   I think most of the "popular" algorithm has to do with new pledges.  Like, "how many new pledges this kickstarter get in the last 24 hours?"

The default algorithm is "magic" and we are way, way, way down the list.  

But for "popular" we are currently #4.   All of the books ahead of us are on their first day or two.

Yesterday we had 44 new backers.   Today we've had 17.   On our second day, when we were #1 we had 521 new backers.   The book in the current #1 spot had 264 backers yesterday and 415 backers today.  The book just ahead of us is 74 yesterday and 34 today.

Two days from a day that is yet to be announced. Once the dust settles after the kickstarter we'll chat with Michael and arrange a date that works well for him and for us. Then we'll probably send out an email in advance to say when the window will be.

I don't remember if I mentioned this here yet or not.  If so I apologize for the repeat.  One of the techniques I've been using when posting about the book/kickstarter to various groups which seems to be working well is to give some personal reasons why I think other members of the group I'm posting to might be interested in it.  What I think is probably even more important is that I try to do this using the language and specific phrases already familiar to that group.

For example, one on-line community uses a conceptual framework they call the 3 E's.  These are the Economy, Energy, and Environment.  So rather than just saying "Here's this book about permaculture I think you all might like."  I present it as " Here is an exciting new book coming out that is focused on the 3 E's, looking at them primarily through the lens of the environment."  Another group is people in the FIRE community (Financial Independence Retire Early).  For them I'll point out the Early Retirement Extreme part and how this book is about saving money while improving our quality of life.

From what I've read in the past there is a serious body of research that shows we humans almost can't help but respond to people who are reflecting our own words/language back to us.  In fact it's a bit scary how effective it can be.  It's something the marketing firms are using on us, we might as well be using it too to spread our values/message.  In my own career as an artist I understand the concept and share it with students as the idea that you need to first form a positive connection with your viewer/audience.  If you can't establish that you will never "sell" anything, whether that sale is of the actual artwork or whether it is of concepts or ideas you are trying to convey.  So when I'm presenting the Build a Better World book to a new audience I try to figure out what will best work to form that positive connection they can relate to be it specific concepts in the book or language structures they speak in already.

Mirroring, it's called by some, the embodiment of the idea that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

One mirrors the gestures, mannerisms, and triggers that the subject employs or shows. The body language enforces the suggestion of unity given by words used to that purpose, such as we instead of you, for instance.

It's hard to be perceived as an outsider imposing their will upon the other if the outsider was actually one of the other, all along.

There is no decimal option for increasing by 0.77

Also the link that supposedly goes to a 2 min video explaining how to change your pledge . Goes to this forum page with NO 2 min video very obvious

It should go straight to a post in this thread with the video embedded. Sometimes if I click a link to a post then I have to wait a second before it bumps me down the page to the right spot.

Under "manage my pledge" if you hit "change my pledge", a box pops up where you can adjust your number. It does accept decimals for cents. So if you want to add 5 cents or 42 cents or 77 cents, or any of the other 96 options for cents, it should allow that.

If you also want to change your reward level, then you need to click on the reward level you want and go from there.

Observation: Your kickstarter doesn't come up when searching for "better world book" on kickstarter.

The Better World Book didn't show up anywhere near the top of the list when I searched "Permaculture," which is strange, too.

I had to search Paul Wheaton for it to come up first on the list.

Hi, just my quick thoughts,

#1 for instance, I work at asml in the Netherlands. A reasonably big, super hightech company with 15000 employees. With some goals on sustainability. They do have ears to promoting ans supporting ideas, books or charities, local and international. Maybe just for advertising, or employee discount or, as a employer Christmas gift for all...
And probably more companies alike....

And I have a small cart in my front yard in summer where I sell my produce, bio, eco etc. Even my own handmade granole and sorts. I can and will promote the book, but is very low scale...

Local but international green or eco magazines or sites, eg. Velt.
