I was just listening to one of Paul's latest podcasts and he is talking with Michael Ott about last years PTJ, on ideas for a natural floor for the new yurt, and upcoming plans. I'm also planning something along these lines at my own place. The book on Earthen Floors looks like a wonderful resource. Sadly, I don't see it in the library or the FPH anywhere accessible anymore. If someone is considering sending a literary boost to the Lab, this seems to be a volume in high demand around here...

I do know them through Crypto.
I am guilty, the products are not fully organic!
Can you point me to another cheese?

I always give Organic Valley credit for meeting the "or better" part of organic standards. Back in the day they were approached by Walmart to be the supplier of organic milk to the entire chain. OV told them to look elsewhere because there was no way they could uphold their standards of organic and non-CAFO ethics while keeping that much milk on the shelves. They also have the only cheeses made with organic, raw, grass-fed milk I've seen in the wider supply chain. No annatto dyes either. Available in Missoula's best grocery stores...

I'm at a point in my life where I become all excited and twitter-pated when I have a new pair of work gloves. Although there was no name going along with these, I'd recognize Eliot's Japanese Fisherman Gloves from a mile away. Thank you for the variety of sizes...!

I have a weird request. Our big red truck, Judy, has winter tire chains strapped snugly to the rear tires with a rubber "star," for lack of a better word (that I know). Her stars are looking pretty sad. If anyone has a couple spare stars/straps/whatever and is willing to pass them along to us, please let me know and we can coordinate. Not looking for an entire set of chains, just the rubberized strap thing.

Here's an example of what we have. Also willing to answer any questions regarding any other details you may need. Just drop me a line. Thanks!

Perhaps something like this?
For bigger tires:
Truck 33-40" tall tires
Or SUV sized tires:
32" tall or smaller tires

Yes, indeed! The tire diameters are somewhere between 28" and 29". If anyone has a spare pair of these lying around and is willing to ship them out here (or stop by and drop them off), it would be much appreciated.

We had a remarkable grant recently, courtesy of The [anonymous] Benefactor.

Please welcome Roy the Truck: a hybrid Ford Maverick. Roy replaces the function of Ranger Doug, who sadly cracked his block this past summer.

Here's the origin of Roy's namesake.

Ill be sure to read this book soon, and then pass along the Cliff's Notes version to anyone interested. The book will also be mounted conveniently inside Roy for anyone interested in reading it for themselves.

An astronomically massive THANK YOU to our Benefactor for such a generous gift.

Oh that's great Steven - so glad it got there! I hope the kale chips get enjoyed by someone!
As I said in my note, I'm not sure how the kale will cope in the climate there - mine is mild and wet....yours is ...not! Probably in the shade would be best, and take cuttings if possible to overwinter, as it may fail in a really cold winter.

Here is mine in late winter (February) making a bid for world domination... whaah haa haar!

This thread came up at the boot meeting this morning.  I mentioned how somebody went to a bunch of yard sales and picked up a bunch of hand tools and sent this to us in one of those flat rate shipping boxes (so the weight didn't matter).  There was a lot of excitement over this kind of package!

In the past there have been care packages with chocolate covered nuts - that went over big.

And every knit hat that has been sent has been scooped up.

I don't buy coffee for the boots, and i know that some boots enjoy coffee (organic only please!)

Lots of Boot Love lately, and we're all immensely grateful...!

Thanks to Tina Wolf for her care packages of organic coffee...

...and a massive pack of 150 cooling towels! There's a rainbow of options. These will be a massive help while we and our guests hang out over the summer events and keep the plants alive in the gardens during the hottest part of the year.

Thank you to former Boot and current PTJ guest Clay for the care package including books for every Boot and cabin...

...plus a sweet treats and coffee cache! The box of Hu chocolate bars has somehow already disappeared.

Just a short time ago, former Boot Nan sent us a package of gardening gloves for each Boot:

Mike Haasl is also here for the PTJ and SKIP events, and brought lots of treats for us, including organic chocolate bars, home-grown sweet potatoes and onions, pantry staples such as peanut butter, some coconut flakes, plus condiments ranging from spicy brown mustard to mixed-berries jam.

Big THANKS goes out to everyone showing the Boots support with their generous gifts and well-wishing.

Here's a pretty major request.

One of our Timber Tools has gone missing since the PTJ concluded about a week and a half ago. Here's a picture of it from earlier this year.

It's currently on sale for $800. I totally understand this is not chump change. It's rather steep, and it's for a highly-specific, frequently-used tool.

It's an indispensable tool, and is frequently used (round here, they're in service any time we fell a tree). If there's anyone willing to send one of these here, or who can pool the money of several anyones and then send one of these here, we would greatly appreciate it. Thanks a million...!

Meanwhile...

A package came in the mail late last week, filled with some permaculture-themed game cards:

Not only am I a complete and total board game nerd, but I noticed quickly that the cards were printed at The Game Crafter, my personal go-to for custom-printed game cards and pieces. I think these cards are super cool and most definitely worthwhile conversation pieces for the Boot team.

There was no name included with this gift, only the word, "Donation." So: to whoever sent it along to us: THANKS!!!

Massive thanks to Alex for supplying us with the funds for a replacement Timber Tool...! This is an extremely generous gift, and it's in use any time we are felling trees. Looking forward to working with it as the weather cools. This is an undeniably valuable contribution.

More Boots Love keeps coming in.

Big THANKS to Nancy Reading for the garden gloves and the choccy bar, sent to us from across the pond.

Another anonymous board game gift, this time with some legit hard-hitting, epic games...! Thanks to whomever had the good taste - and the coin to send us Dune Imperium and Quacks of Quedlinburg...!!! Holy smokes.

Boots Love, in the form of books and gloves (my personal favourite kind, too!) plus a couple rain ponchos.
Everyone keeps mentioning the Dragonriders of Pern series. This seems like a golden opportunity to see what all the fuss is about.

Big THANKS to Tina...!

From the hazy mists of youthful memory I'm recalling Pern as a very permaculture (Pernaculture?) place. I'm a bit surprised the Hollywood set hasn't conjured up a twisted re-imagining of it to push some political message by now. I'm also worried it won't live up to my halcyon recollection if I re-read now, but McCaffrey at least had some real magic back then...

An enormous thank you goes to Bill Kearns for his contribution of a foot-powered pottery wheel...!

It's fresh off the back of Roy, our pickup truck, and will be installed with all its parts sometime very soon. Paul and I are determining where it would be best installed. Somewhere near both water and a place for us to set up the rocket kiln.

Thanks, Bill!!!
